My name is Tee I am at Dweirdscientist@yahoo.com. I have been waiting to go to Turkey for quite sometime. Each time I look at the advisory there is a strong warning against going. Currently the government is still posting this warning. I really want to go, however I was wondering is anyone planning on going from NY this summer to Turkey?

If you are planning on going and your from New York please get in touch with me. Perhaps we can plan to meet at the airport. I want to do this tour, I am just so nervous about flying into Istanbul and Leaving Istanbul alone. This is my concern more than anything.

Oh wow, I would inquire more, but I am still working in May. I am a teacher and I can't travel until July. Could you tell me what made you decide to go? I ask because so many people feel I should not and I like to hear from someone who is a traveler, why you chose to go (Other than the fact that I heard Turkey is an amazing country to see).

Well I initially wanted to travel to east africa: Kenya, Tanzania and Zanzibar. My travel agent advised against it, particularly Kenya because of all that is presently happening within the country. Pretty much everywhere I want to go in the world may be questionable, however, I thought Turkey would be a great cultural experience. I have a "now or never" approach to living and well, Turkey hasn't made this list: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/tw/tw_1764.html So I'm going unless something catastrophic occurs. I've gotten the concerns from people about traveling there considering it shares border with Iraq. Not to say I am impervious to harm, but unless you are traveling into an area of conflict, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Hi Imacdiva, i share your views. This tour sticks to the west coast so is not in the 'do not travel zone' which is considered to be south/east Turkey. I have been to Egypt and Jordan and the culture was amazing. I am particulary interested to see the comparison between Ephesus (Turkey) and Petra (Jordan). I know that these countries are 'at a higher risk' but we can't forget that there have been incidents in the western world which are visited regularly with no thought about what might happen. You only live once.

I am so sorry, I have not logged on in a while. Like I said if you wish to contact me, my email is Dweirdscientist@yahoo.com. I am still very undecided, but it's comforting to know other Americans will be going. I have been busy because I just got a publishing contract for my book. So it is taking up a great deal of my time.

I am thinking about doing this trip from Aug 15-23. I will be flying out of LAX or San Diego probably. I went with Contiki to Egypt last year and had a wonderful time. Don't worry about flying alone. There is someone from Contiki waiting for you at the airport and they drive you straight there. I flew alone, but there are not a lot of flights going to Egypt, and I am guessing Turkey, so there were a few other Contiki people on my flight going in each way. I was also warned against go to Egypt. Besides the roads (crazy drivers!) I never felt unsafe at all!
