Just found out recently that our trip is during Ramadan. Its supposed to be an amazing time to go there, Carnival type atmosphere. Most of the country will be fasting during the day. So probably not a good idea to walk down the street with a burger in your hand....

Ramadan will be wonderful. The restaurants will still be open for business during the day, but will likely have the windows papered over. In the evenings the food will be plentiful, and alot of special dishes will be available.

Being that we are going to be there during Ramadan, many people who are not usually really strict in their beliefs may be more strict during this time. We will likely see a little bit more of the traditional dress during this time.

Just a comment for the women on this trip, bring a hair scarf!!! You won't be able to go into a mosque without one. They do have some at the mosques but everyone else has had them on their hair. And fleas and lice are common there. They will have beautiful scarves for sale everywhere over there, but again..you don't know how many people have trued them on. So if you are buying any there...put them directly into a plastic bag and seal it, either for 48 hours or until you can hand wash it in your room.

Me and Diane will be at the Erboy Hotel, just around the corner from the Erbil for 3 nights before we join up with the tour on saturday.
Maybe we will see some of you before saturday. Let me know if any of you are going to be in Istanbul early and where you are staying.
