hey im hoping to do western highlights in early august and im just wondering where you get picked up in amaheim? also wanted to know if its better to be in anaheim or in la central...what are the pros and cons of each?

I did the Western Highlights in March, so hopefully I can help you out a little

Okay, the actual Contiki tour starts at the Holiday Inn in Anaheim, CA. I believe most people on the tour stay at that hotel the night before the tour starts as

• You meet your contiki tour roommate (if you haven't already)


• There is an option orientation evening - I didn't go to it, although some people had a blast. 


• The tour starts at the Hotel early the next morning


• Contiki travellers get a discount rate at the hotel


• Close to Disneyland and Cali adventure land if you are looking to go there before the tour starts

Negativies about Anaheim;

• It doesn't seem to be close to any ammenities e.g. food


• The city of LA is about 45 - 50 mins away. The train station is short Taxi ride away from the Anaheim train station. Trains are very good in LA - clean, safe and on time!!!!!


• You have to catch an airport shuttle to the hotel - I think it cost around $15 USD? Although the shuttle service was easy to find and good service.

From my experiences, I was fine with staying in Anaheim. I am not a big fan of L.A. itself, but I am glad I got to visit Hollywood with my roommate the day before the tour started.

Hi Clare,

Well i have also done a contiki before and from my experience Mel is right. It is definately best to stay at the contiki hotel the night before.
Most of the time the pre-nite introduction doesnt last too long as people tend to stick the people they have already met etc. But there is definately the exception to every rule.

I am doing the western highlights tour starting on 29th August, so if you havent made up your mind what time you will be doing the tour, at least you will know someone else.

Im doing the Wester Highlights tour starting on July 22. Thanks for the info regarding the hotel to stay at the night before, that is pretty useful.

I have done contiki before but in europe, and I went to the intro evening and if u can get there it is well worth it as u can meet people and it makes it easier when the tour starts. I was with a mate when i went to Europe but im on my own this time, so ill be glad to meet people to break the ice haha
