I was hoping someone could help with information about passports. I wanted to know how you go about getting a passport and do they do background checks.

Most U.S. Post offices can file a passport application for you. You will need to fill out some forms, get two photos taken, and have your birth certificate. The birth certificate will be returned in a few weeks but the actual passport might take about 8 weeks. I wouldn't say they do a background check, it is more of just making sure you are who you say you are.
