This may sound kind of silly, but for everyone here who has tattoos.....would it be wise to bring makeup to cover them for when going into chuchs and such in Rome? I'm sure it's not mandatory, but would it be seen as more of a respect thing if I had it covered or is it ok to let it be? My big one on my back will be covered by clothing, but I am getting on on my ankle tonight and wasn't sure. TIA!

uhm.. I'm not sure about tattoos! All I know is that you should be wearing a top that covers your shoulders and is not too revealing.. Also, wear shorts/skirts that aren't too short. (at least past knee length)

Ya, 'church dress' is a must, particularly if you want to go inside churches in Italy (including the Vatican) ....exposed tattoos are not a problem at all.

They couldn't care less if you were fully tattoo'd from head to two. Just ensure that your shoulders are covered, and so should your knees be. it was so hot when we were there, that we bought a scarf, and just tied it around our shoulders when we were in the cathedrals, so that we could still wear our tank tops around.
