hey i was wondering what everyone thought of their starting days of the tour for those who have been on contiki
what would be the best day to go? i see allot of sunday and friday tour starts, and a couple during the week. did you find starting on a sunday most places like museums and shops where closed. i've read in a few travel books that some things aren't open on monday tuesdays ect.
dose it really matter in europe? just want to know if its going to mean restricting the places i want to go see at the time (im sure it wont) any advice would help
most tourist venues are open on all days but I would check to make sure there aren't any public holidays in in England when you are in Paris or the lines will be really long.
I didn't think about what day I was leaving on when we booked but we ended up in Paris when the Louvre was closed. I think it's possible no matter what day you leave that you may end up somewhere where things are closed during your trip. There were so many other things to see and do it didn't end up bothering us at all!
It seems like no matter what day you start there is always a risk of stuff being closed, between days when places are closed and holidays. Even if stuff is closed there is (almost) always other things to do and see.
However, if there is something you really want to do and see in a particular city then you should absolutely do the math to make sure that place will be open.
My European Magic tour technically started on a Sunday. The meeting in London was at 5pm on Saturday and Sunday we were off on the bus fairly early in the morning. If you are seeing that many things are closed on Sundays this might be a good day to start the tour as we were on the bus most of the day traveling from London to Amsterdam. When we arrived in Amsterdam we had dinner at the hotel and then most of us were off to the option canal cruise. Some people wondered around the city, this was around 6pm when most museums would be closed anyway. Monday we had the morning and afternoon in Amsterdam and the museums and shops were open.
my european inspirations tour started on a monday morning and we didn't run into any closures of any major sights thank god!! but even if things are closed, it just means you get to use that time to explore the city your in and take it all in a bit more than just some museum or monument.
