I did the Grand Canadian in August this year and did it from Vancouver -> NYC and had the time of my life. Trust me you will have many memories from this trip that will last a lifetime. The two different sides of the GC are very different and although I, along with the majority of the Grand Canadians, preferred the western side it was all great.
