I just saw that Contiki is now offering this Superior class trip to Russia and Scandinavia...it sounds really cool!
I am in California...does anyone have any good ideas about how to find reasonably priced airfare between LA and Riga?

Hi Greg

I am from NZ and have booked on this contiki leaving around the 26 May 08. I am leaving NZ, doing a NY contiki then flying on to London to catch up with friends. So I will be heading to Riga from London.
In regards to your question about getting to Riga, the only thing I can think of at this stage is flying to London and getting a flight to Riga with Ryanair. Hope that is some help.

Megan

Thanks for the info Megan...I will check with Ryan Air...It sounds like you are going to have a really great trip...I am always jealous that Kiwis and Aussies get so much more vacation time than we Americans!

I am VERY excited that they now have the hotel tour in this area as I am not much for the campsites. I might be doing this tour in September since I am looking into a rotation in Denmark through school. I agree that ryanair would probably be the best bet for flights. Just fly into London and then catch a flight from there to riga. Just be careful w/ ryanair b/c if your luggage is overweight they will charge you like crazy!!

Hi!!!

I am thinking that this trip looks really great!! I am hoping to book it, but obviously not until around February, since none of the tours leave until May!! I will be in Europe at this time anyway and I have ALWAYS wanted to go to Russia....

Greg, I'm originally from California, but now live in Las Vegas half of the year and Germany for half of the year. Where in Cali are you from??

I'm doing my "research" on this trip and I'm from California as well. If you're not going anywhere else besides the tour, you're best bet is to book roundtrip from lax to scandanavia (see cheaptickets.com). Then, a one-way ticket from scandanavia to riga (see expedia.com). Otherwise, if you go with ryanair, you'll have to book another flight from scandanavia to london. Be careful with ryanair, there is one-way flights from scandanavia to riga, BUT it is not at the same international airport. It might cost you more by taxi to get to the other airport. I'm still trying to decide whether to start from Riga or Moscow. Does anybody have any raving reports on Riga?

Hi explorer-
I live in Huntington Beach. I lived up in LA for 13 years, but and just moved back here to Orange County.

What do you do that allows you to live half the year in Germany? I am very envious!

Hi Greg!

Well, I'm only 20 and at this point I am just being a student. I study online classes (general education right now..if I have to do it, I might as well do it somewhere fun!!) So I am able to spend half of the year in Germany because my boyfriend lives there, and the other half with my family in Las Vegas.

I grew up in the SF Bay Area, small town near Berkeley area. I miss it, but Las Vegas and Germany are nice places to live too ;-)

Hi Rach4187!

I am from Las Vegas too! I am debating between this tour in May 2008 vs. the Eastern road.

Hi there! I was wondering if you guys could tell me around what age you are? I am looking into going on a trip with mid-late20's, early 30's. Any suggestions on older group trip? I am a first time contiki traveller! Thanks!!

I am 24 but will not be doing the tour until am 25 and a half. This is so I can save some money without having to worry so much about my credits cards and I can pay off some of my student loans in the mean time.

I did this tour last summer (although it's changed a lot this year), but I'd say the average age was mid to late 20s, although there was people in the whole age range, from 18 straight to 35. I think this tour tends to attact a bit older / more travelled crowd that's already done some travelling and wants to get off the beaten trak. Russia definitly has some culture shock (although I loved every minute of it!!) and age doesn't matter as much as attitude. On my tour I saw well-travelled 20 year olds handle themselves better than not-so-well-travelled late 20s!

Alex, I think $C150 would definitly be enough. I probably spent roughly this much a day (not including optionals), but the old tour spent more time in Scandinavia... and those countres are crazy expensive!
