Has anyone been to Riga? After hostel my partner thinks were going to get hunted and eaten!! Ha Ha. Has anyone been? Got any advice? Thanks.

I'm going on the tour starting May 12 in Riga and honestly am not worried. If you get a Lonely Planet guide on the Baltics there are definitely warnings, but that goes for the whole of Eastern Europe. Originally I was arriving three days early and had planned day trips and everything and I'm travelling on my own. If you have any doubts or fears, stick to the main towns and always travel with someone (there are so many singles on Contiki trips, you'll always be able to find someone to drag shopping or sight-seeing!) and if you check out the hotel - search "Viktorija Hotel Riga" on google - and you'll feel a LOT better about the place. I wasn't sure what "superior class" meant in that area of the world, and I admit, I'm not a backpacker or hostel girl, and I was pleasantly surprised.

Depends what you like, but the history, culture and architecture of Latvia is amazing and, they're on the list for full ascension to the EU and NATO - which is nerd speak for having to have crime levels under control!!!
