So I just booked my first Contiki tour - I am so psyched.  Never been to Europe before (we NJ guys don't get out much), and now I'll get to see three awesome cities.  It was a last-minute decision (thank God for credit cards, lol) but its definitely worth it.  Going from July 14-24.  Can't wait!

Anyone else going on this trip?

Hey Matt,

I was just wondering when you will be arriving into London???  Im going on the Road to Athens tour starting on the 15 July but will be in London from the 8th July.  If you are going to be there it would be great to catch up and have a few drinks.  Not long to go now, cant wait!!!

Cheers

Hey Kate,

I sent you a message, not sure if you got it or not.  I'm due into London the evening of July 14, so I'd love to get together and grab a drink or two after I get my stuff to my hotel.  Let me know, that'd be awesome.

Us New Yorka's don't get out much either -- especially us New Yorkers on a budget! My friend and I are thinking about this tour too... sometime summer '07! Can't wait!

I haven't checked this site in MONTHS! Anyways, I had a blast on this tour. Our tour guide (Gary) was great - he knows his stuff and made it an interesting trip. We did get a good amount of time on our own in London and Paris, which was great. You have just enough time to hit the major sites in each city, and it gives you a sense of where you will go if/when you go back. Rome is totally self-touring, but it is VERY EASY to get around using the 2 subways and the bus. (Being from NY will help...)

A couple of pieces of advice: firstly, don't bring Travelers Checks. They are good to have, but not many places cash them. When in doubt, cash and your ATM card are your best bets. I went overbudget, but not by a huge amount (damn exchange rates!). Secondly, in your budget, make sure you include money for the optional excursions (Bath, Stonehenge, and DEFINITELY the Moulin Rouge). The Moulin Rouge was off the hook - I even got on stage to participate in one of the acts! Definitely the highliht of my life. The accommodations were less than stellar (especially in Paris), so don't expect the four-star hotels that we have in the NY area. You're staying in tourist hotels, which mean small rooms and little-to-no air conditioning. That said, they're bearable. Hopefully Contiki will change the Paris hotel, which totally SUCKED. And finally, just have fun. Europe is such an awesome place, and between seeing all the sights and meeting people, it was a great trip. There were many more positives than negatives, and for me that means the trip was well worth it!
