Okies how do I go about getting a cab in NYC? I know that there are thousands of them, but I may require one really early in the morning (like 6am). Here in Australia we can just call the taxi company and they send a car- is it the same type of thing in NY?

The best way to get a cab is to have the hotel call one for you. You can try hailing one on the street but I've had times where it's taken me as long as an hour to get one.
You will always find cabs at grand Central Station or Penn Station as they have stands.

Clubs and bars are very strict on id's and won't let anyone in under 21 as that is the legal drinking age. You an get around that by either getting a fake id or going to the club so early that there aren't any bouncers by the door. You could try to =dress and look in a way that makes you look older too.

Hey Loogie,

I realise this post is old, but hopefully you're still around to answer... :-)

Would you recommend that I leave my purse at home for my trip to NYC? Or would I look more like a tourist by NOT carrying a purse?

Also, which areas should I absolutely stay away from?

Hi Rezuri

I'm a local New Yorker myself. Bring your purse, women always carry purses. You will be safe, just be wise. You can bring a purse when you're going out at night as well. Girls always carry purses, it's a fashion thing Smiler. But, if you're just wearing jeans- ID & Money is all you need since that can fit in your pocket. It's up to you Smiler
