Hey,
I'm booked on te Grand Explorer leaving Auckland on the 19th July, on our way back down from the Bay of Islands we will pick you up in Auckland. I've posted a post about my trip on the NZ advice section and only had one reply from Simon who is doing the adventurer. I'm sure there are more people out there just no one is replying yet Frowner this is my first contiki and i'm going solo. going to be scary but i'm so excited and from what i've heard it's better to travel alone as you get to do what you want. where are you from? I'm from Brisbane Australia. It's 7 weeks tomorrow until my tour starts. i can't wait. it/s going to be sooooo cold but should be an awesome trip!!!!

Hi Kylie, thats great news. Good to be meeting people on my tour before heading over there. Yep travelling alone is pretty scary...at least now we both know 2 people :-) I'm from Sydney. So excited too, I worked out yesterday that its only 7 weeks away...I going Ski Jacket shopping tonight as I think its going to be freezing :-( Especially if sydney coldness is anything to go by (mean't to be 10times worst in NZ). I'm sure a lot of ppl are out there but they probably didn't realise you could do this chat thing like me until the other day..hahaha shall we blame the blondeness in me. Can't wait for the trip!! There's 4 of us now. we are growing in numbers! I still have to get a jacket and that. waiting for sales to come on and I was also told if I buy less than 30 days before I leave and I purchase >$300 I get the GST back at the airport. So I'm going to take that option depending on what hte sale prices are though. Yeah I agree with the freezing. Winter hasn't even hit here in Brissie yet, barely need a jacket of a morning so I'm going to die big time I think. We are so spoilt up here so will be a big shock to the system. But am sooo looking forward to it and can not wait. It's going to be a LOT of fun!!!

Hey All, -6 are you serious :-( oh man!!
Yep I agree with you Simon, this Sydney weather is definitely preparing us for NZ.
Jo, I'm staying at Mercure Hotel Windsor the night before the tour (20 July). This hotel is the sister hotel to the one that contiki offered to us, although they were booked out when I requested a room. Mercure Windsor said its like around the corner to the other hotel..so that is heaps good. Where are the rest of you staying?
The countdown is definitely on its only 34 days to go :-)
Chat to you soon

Man, I realise it's going to be cold but -6 is crazy!!! I'm so not going to be prepared as we barely get winter here in Brisbane. Coldest it's gotten so far is like 8 degrees and that's overnight. 8 degrees is like the maximum in some places at the moment. Sure it's going to be a bit of a shock to my system. But everywhere will be centrally heated and the only time we'll probably feel the cold is when we're exposed to it, so I'm hoping it won't be too bad. That's what I keep telling myself anyway. 4 1/2 weeks to go I'm so excited and can't wait to get outta here. I'm staying an extra day in Christchurch and not flying back home until the Saturday morning. Friday will probably be a recovery day for me. Not sure what hotels I'm staying in in Christchurch yet. Haven't booked that yet, probably should though.

Hey, I hope you are right also Kylie..we should survive. Anyhow the more alcohol we drink, the warmer our bodies will be hehehehe I'm staying at Bealey's Hotel night tour finishes also. Fly home on the Friday 3 August. Wish I could have got more time off work to do the bay of islands bit too..or at least stay queenstown a little longer...but it is still going to be the best time ever!! Its exactly one month to go tomorrow woo hoo :-)
