Hi Peta!

I'm goin on the Ultimate Euro on 18/8 with Mykonos option!! So excited about it and have been waiting for so long now!! I'll be travelling along with my best mate! There is another person named Daniel who posted a msg under "ULTIMATE EUROPEAN - Aug 18th" not long ago!

The time is really flying - I can't wait! It's nice knowing that there are actually people out there going on the same tour!! It should be a really good experience! =)

Yep, that's me!
Looking forward to it!  Yeah, its good to get to know people a bit first. I'd say we're pretty much guaranted a full bus. This will be my 4th contiki and every one I have done before has been full (I did 2 contikis in America and I did Ski Hopfgarten in January). Those we meet here online will represent just a fraction of the people that will be on the tour. From the looks of it we'll probably lose a few on the way as I daresay they'll combine our tour with the London to Rome and London to Athens trips.

Right now I am living just outside of London at a restaurnat saving to pay the remainder of my balance and earning my spending money for the trip. My plan is to relocate to London a few days before the trip starts so I can get myself organis before setting off. If any of you will be in london a few days before, let me know. we can catch up and I'll show you around the sights. And if you want a good tip from me. For accomodation a bit cheaper than the Royal National Hotel, book your pre tour accomodation at the generator hostel which is just a few blocks away from the Royal National, is much cheaper (especially if you book online), and is  great for the party goers you inevitably meet on Contiki tours. I have stayed there a bunch of times before and its great! Being a non smoker I was a bit cheesed that they let people smoke indoors in the common areas, but once you get over that, there is a good time to be had. (Actually, I subsequently discovered that in Europe, non smokers are somewhat of a minority, so if you don't smoke, be prepared to breathe in some secondary smoke against your will at times.) Just make sure you're up bright and early the day the tour starts!

Anywho.... talk to yas soon! And looking forward to shairng the adventure with you all!

See you in August!

Daniel

Hey, I booked August 18th Ultimate Europe too. Going alone but I did a trek america tour last year for 4 weeks and I was fine. All 12 of us were solo travelling. Bit nervous going alone but I will overcome it eventually. Look forward to meeting you. send us a msg if you want.

Hey!

I wouldnt worry too much about that. The number of people you tend to meet on this site before a tour is usually only a handful compared to those who show up for the actual thing. It'll probably be mostly australians, Kiwis and South Africans... but dont worry if you're the only Canadian on board... thats not really a bad thing! Being surrounded by all us dirty foreigners will make it seem like you're in another country.

Well.. stay sfae.. and see yer on August!

Daniel

I had my mind set on eygpt but i decided to the greece option. I really want to see the Pyrimids and Sphix but I will one day. And a resort relaxing for my 21st birthday in Greece sounds pretty good.

Hey!

Options wise.. I'm doing Greece. I'm doing Egypt Seperately in a couple of weeks. I'm doing a gekos tour for 9 days seeing most of what we'd see on the contiki. I figured it'd be nice to spend 6 days on the beach.. a nice break from the tour bus... those things can get cramped and constantly travelling can be very tiresome... so Greece should be the ideal break!

See yas all soonish!

Daniel

PS: Yep!  Saving Mercilessly!

G'day Sharon, Nothing to be nervous about. I'm sure like most of us, you'll have the time of your life.  I'll be heading of to London on the 11 of August and will be staying at the Generator Hostel. I plan on seeing the sites of London before the tour and have some fun Hehehe. Is there any reason why you've choosen this tour? I choose this one because of the range of countries we'll be visiting and of course the the Oktoberfest lol
Regards
Matho

Hey Matho!

I hoping to be in England about two weeks before so I can visit family and friends. I decided on this tour because of the number of countries it's going to. Do you know if this will be a big "party" tour or a mix? I'm not a big partier!!

Hey Sharon

From what I read from boards and travelogues and from what I have heard it's upto you what you make it. I am not a big drinker either so not to worry. I think Daniel is the best person to answer this question.

I haven't booked my flight yet thinking about meeting up with people I met when I did a trek america trip last year. I might fly out and spend a few days in London before the tour if anyone wants to meet up and go sightseeing send me a message.

Counting down the days.

Hey y'all!

Just thought I'd check up on yas! In answer to Sharons question, Contiki tours have a reputation for being big booze fests, but in my experience you get a range of different types... there will always be people who just want to get drunk in a different city each night, and there are those who arent such heavy partiers. I can sympathise with you here as I am not a huge drinker... I'd class myself as a moderate partier... I enjoy it but I do beleiev there is too much of a good thing... so dont wporry... no matter what your stance on partying and drinking.. you are unlikely to be alone.

I have just got back from a week in Egypt, and have a few tips for those of you doing the Egypt option. Egypt is great and I have no doub t yopu'll love every second of it.. but I have a few survival tips.

- Dont drink the tap water, its not good! Drink only bottled water, but buy it from smaller shops, as its cheaper there. If you buy it from tourist attractions like the Pyramids you will be ripped off.

-Without going into too much detail, bring anti diarhoea medication.., chances are you'll need it!

- Dont buy anything from street hawkers as it will usually be poor quality and will attract other street hawkers who wont take no for an answer if they see you with money.

- Buy souvenirs from the bazars. You will need to do some bargaining. When bargaining, give the impression that you dont need it, or want it all that much... the price will come down dramatically!

- Beware of tourist ploys. Dont talk to camel people at the pyramids as they will only try and extract money from you by not letting you down from the camel until you tip them heavily enough.... travel in taxis in groups as sometimes taxi drivers will take you off into the middle of n owhere and wont take you whewre you want to go until you tip  them.. and dont depoend on the tourist police as they will also try and extract money from you given half the chance.. nefarious buggers!

I know this all sounds a bit omenous.. but its  afantastic place and you'll love it! Anywho.. see you all in August!

Daniel
