Hello all,

Just curious to know if anyone is going on this tour date. I have done one tour with contiki before and had an amazing time. Italy is simply the best!!!

Drop me a line here or djamer@hotmail.com if you'll be traveling on this tour. Trying to plan something out this summer or fall.

Take Care,
Amer

Hey there Amer
Finally, someone who is going in Nov. I'm seriously considering taking this tour from 18-25 Nov. Wasn't sure how the weather would be...what do you think/know?  Where are you from? I am from San Diego, CA. Never been w/ Contiki before, what was your experience like?

Hi Chantelle,

how are you? I am seriously considering this trip as well. I can honestly say, contiki tours are amazing. I went on Meditterean Highlights two years back and no complaints whatsoever. I am in northern virginia..

Judging by weather reports, i think nov may not be the best time, so I will have to rethink either in late Sep or Oct.
Here is some information on Italian weather...
---

September is a good time of year to visit Italy. Temperatures are beginning to drop and the weather is usually dry. Summer resorts are less crowded after the schools open in the middle of the month.
Autumn officially begins on September 23.

October is the best month of all for visiting Rome: the sunny days are known locally as the "ottobrate romane". In northern Italy and at higher altitudes, however, temperatures may already be quite low, particularly at night. The evenings are closing in and during the last weekend of the month the clocks go back.

November is not generally considered to be a good month for visiting Italy. The days are short and it is often rainy, although rarely very cold. In addition, some hotels and restaurants may close in order to carry out renovation work or allow the owners to take a holiday.
If you do opt for a November vacation, don't miss tasting the new wine ("vino novello") and chestnuts that abound at this time of year.

thanks so much for the info, Amer.
After reading that, i'm not sure whether to still keep that date or not--really wanted to go during the Nov. holiday, and a little rain never hurt anyone :-). I'll have to think on it a bit more though...but definitely will be going to Italy this Fall. It would be nice to speak to someone who would be going on the same trip as I, so let me know what date you decide...
Do they ever cancel a Contiki tour if not alot of people are signed up?

If there aren't enough people signed up for a particular tour date, they do indeed cancel it. So, possibly, if there aren't many people signing up for late November, I would think they may cancel it.

I don' t mind the rain, but, from what I hear, it will be pretty bad that time of year, so, I rather wait for a better date (2007) or earlier this year possibly in August.

Hi there!

I'm new to the Contiki experience.  Is anyone else out there planning to go to the November 18-25, 2006 tour?  Is the weather really that rainy/bad in November?  I was planning to go during the Thanksgiving holiday.

Also, does anyone have any advice on how to get from the airport to the hotel?  Is the shuttle worth it?  I'm afraid that if I take a taxi (and I don't speak Italian), I might get ripped off.

Thanks in advance for the info/help!

Joyce

Hey Amer,
thanks for the information. I've been looking to change my trip plans to the beginning of October now. time's running out, but I may save Contiki for another time as now i may be able to travel with a friend to several places (and stay with acquaintances along the way). I'm now looking to go for three weeks to see Milan, Bologna, Rome, Amalfi Coast and Sicily-- If my plans change i'll do a last minute booking with contiki!
Have an awesome trip over there!
