I'm planning on going around this time. I'd really like to go around March or April becuse I think it's cheaper then. If not I want to go in September. I'm so excited! I just hope I can afford it. Have you done a trip with Contiki before?

I've never been to Europe or done a Contiki trip. I'm very excited to go, especially Greece and Italy. I'm from just outside Portland, Oregon. I'm 21 and I'll be 22 in September. Where in Canada are you from? Are you going to be traveling alone?

I was thinking about taking this trip some time in 2007 and following it up with the Golden Fleece. Then again, I was originally thinking of Scandi and Russia for this time but being an old bloke (will be 32 by then) I decided I don't want to do the camping thing any more. My point being I may change my mind again.

Which of course raises the question why I am writing on here when I have no idea what I want to be doing... so if anyone wants to get in touch to help me make up my mind before I go insane please feel free.

Do you know when the new dates for the tour in 2007 will be coming out. That will help me decide for sure when I'm going. Does the trip have to be paid for all up front or is it a deposit and you can make payments? I think this tour looks the most amazing out of all of them.

I think the new dates come out in mid november. I dont think the trip has to be paid upfront. I think it has to be paid 45 days before departure. I want to go now, this trip is all I think about..ahaahah...are you pretty sure your going on this tour or still thinking about it?

I have been told that the new dates come out in October.. I think I can wait that long to make up my mind.

I am very tempted to do this tour. It goes to several places I have been before but that was 10 years ago so with luck it will all seem new again. And if I end up doing the Golden Fleece tour this would be ab ideal way to get to Athens.

As far as the timing goes I was planning June/July but that was when I was thinking of going right up North. I think September might be a better time for Greece... I never been there but I expect it is very busy around the islands during July and August when everyone is on Summer Holiday.

I still have to decide if I want to go Contiki though... I like the idea of this tour followed by a cruise to Turkey... but I saw a Topdeck tour that sounded pretty good too so I may give that a go...

Ashley, about the payment I have not used the online method so I don't know how that works... I have booked all my previous trips through a travel agent who asks for everything to be paid in full about a month before my first flight.. or something like that... maybe it was two months... or six weeks... I need to stop drinking and pay more attention. Please don't take offence but if money is likely to be tight you might be better of delaying a while. I have seen people going on these tours who have spent everything up front and then can't afford the optionals and the alcohol during the tour. They still have a good time but if you ask me holidays are better when you don't have to cancel that third drink order so that you can afford dinner the next night.

I have said enough now so I am going to bugger off... oh and if there are any Aussies reading this do you want to take the seat beside me on the plane to London?

James

This is for sure the trip I want and the one I'm going to book as soon as the new dates come out. I'm going to book it far enough out that I will be able to afford it. Im not a big drinker so I'm not to worried about spending money on drinks. I appreciate the advice James and no offense taken. I'm a college student and I'm paying for my own tuition so thats the main reason money is tight. I think I will have to take a semester off in oreder to go though,s o I wont miss to much.Fine by me!lol. Hey Canadianguy, this trip is all I think about too! It's crazy! Do any of you have a myspace. Here's mine http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.vi...ile&friendid=9363071. We can chat on there about the trip too. I want to go when the weather will be warm in Greece, so we can enjoy the beaches.

I don't have one of those myspace things... maybe I should get one. All the cool kids seem to have them... maybe I am missing out.

Actually I doubt I would ever have much opprtunity to chat to either of you because of the different time zones. But I am happy enough to talk about the trip on here or through email... my email address is up in my first response.

But I am at work now so I should probably get back to it...

Hey Everyone!!

We (my husband & I), are planning to do the RTA around April next year, and we are like all of you - totally excited and obsessing about it!! I've done a fair bit of research, and think that April will be best - not too hot, not too cold, and it's not the peak tourist season, so prices will be reasonable.
We are booking through a travel agent, and they told us sometime in the beginning of October will be the release date for next years tours. And it can't get here fast enough!!
You're right Ashley - this does look like the best tour! And I've heard that they let you pay it off in instalments, but if you can manage to pay it off within a certain time, they give you a discount - not sure how big of a discount though....
This will be our first trip overseas - can anyone give us some pointers about the whole packing saga, and what is better - travellers cheques, or just withdrawing from an ATM?

Hi All.
I'm thinking of going in May 07 as well. Do you know whether or not the tour would be rushed or anything like that?

I'm thinking of flying from Ahtens back to Amsterdam for a few days before coming back home.

Hey Ashley!!

I'm 24, and David (my husband) is 25.

What are you doing at school? I was doing Physics at uni, but have put it on hold indefinitely to have some fun for a change!

Were you thinking of spending some time in London before the tour starts? We hope to, maybe 4 days or so - that way we can see the sights, go to Stonehenge and Bath - just do the whole tourist thing basically.

Talk to you soon, Cassy!
