Hi! I am wondering how far the hotels we are staying in are from the main towns of Mykanos, Ios and Santorini? Does anyone know if they are walking distance or do we have to take a bus or something?

Hi Angela...

Assuming they are still using what was the Contiki Resort in Mykonos, you have to take a taxi, bus (arranged by the TM) or hire car, it's a fare way out from town.

Santorini is walkable but it would probably take 15-20 mins, once again a hire car or bus is more convenient.

Ios is walkable to both the town and Far Out Beach. There is a free bus down to Far out Beach whenever you want it during the day and there is a local bus that runs in to town regularly.

I did it last year and I'm doing it again this year...

It was the best ever, we were there in the middle of a heat wave so we had cloudless and windless 40 degree days every day!

Did you rent a scooter when you were on any islands? I'm wanting to but I read on some websites that you need to have an international drivers licence to do so.

I rented a 4x4 on Mykonos and a 4WD in Santorini... We didn't need a International Drivers Licence though, maybe some dealers are strict on that type of thing but most of them would go out of business if they only allowed people who had remembered to do the right thing rent their cars...

You only really need transport for Mykonos and Santorini, Ios everything is a walk away...
