OKTOBERFEST!

Ok, so I wrote a piece on the AU version of our last eNews which featured Oktoberfest. If you are going to OKTOBERFEST, here's some fun facts:

"The Oktoberfest, or known as Wiesn' by the locals, started way back in 1810 as wedding party celebration for Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and his bride Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. The original Oktoberfest was attended by 40,000 people in a meadow or "weisn" and has grown to over 6 million attendees from all over the world.

Here are some fun facts and tips about Oktoberfest!

• Most of Oktoberfest is held in September! This years festivities begins 16 September and ends 3 October.
  
• Tip your waitress! There are hundreds of people vying for her attention at the fest, so make sure you tip well in the first few rounds so she'll keep an eye on your table.
  
• Stay close to the dunny! Make sure when finding seating inside a tent, you find something close to the toilets. Queue times for the loo can vary from a few minutes to an hour, so be close by when you need to make a mad dash or stumble to the restrooms.
  
• Traveling with mates? Set up a time and place to meet up. Also, use SMS to communicate. It gets crowded in the tents and can be very loud and raucous, so set up a time and spot to meet beforehand and keep in touch through text messages.
  
• Bring cash! If you plan to drink quite a bit, having cash on hand will be handy. While the grounds will have plenty of cash machines, it's doubtful you'll remember where the ATM is or your pin code! So bring enough cash to last the day."
