I heard that, at least for Canadians (based on our government site www.voyage.gc.ca) NZ customs and immigration like to see that you have at least $1,000 NZ Dollars. Has anyone else heard/experienced this. Also, do they want a letter from your bank, credit card statements etc?

I have another customs/immigration question.

I was just told by a friend that when he and his family went to NZ several years ago they made them all get visitor records that they had to pay for and hand back in when they left NZ. Did anyone experience this? He didn't remember how much it cost. Does anyone know? He said it was like those little green/white cards that US customs puts in your passports that you're supposed to drop off.

Are you referring to Airport departure tax?

Have a look at this: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/archive/t-970736.html

good summary is the last post:

Hiya,

The forms you fill in are;

When you arrive in NZ you have to fill in a declaration card for biosecurity to declare anything that might be harmful and also for things like dutyfree allowances.

When you depart you just fill in a standard departure card which says how long you've been in NZ and where you're going.

I haven't heard of anything like a visitor record - and I used to work at Auckland airport...

Not the departure tax, he said it was something else, to make sure that they left and didn't overstay their visit. He is a dual British and Canadian citizen.

But since most people haven't heard of it. I guess it was rare or they no longer do that anymore.

Thanks thoughSmiler
