I have another customs/immigration question. I was just told by a friend that when he and his family went to NZ several years ago they made them all get visitor records that they had to pay for and hand back in when they left NZ. Did anyone experience this? He didn't remember how much it cost. Does anyone know? He said it was like those little green/white cards that US customs puts in your passports that you're supposed to drop off.

Hiya,
The forms you fill in are;
When you arrive in NZ you have to fill in a declaration card for biosecurity to declare anything that might be harmful and also for things like dutyfree allowances.
When you depart you just fill in a standard departure card which says how long you've been in NZ and where you're going.
I haven't heard of anything like a visitor record - and I used to work at Auckland airport...
