I am going to New Zealand in a few weeks and want to get the best New Zealand experience possible. Contiki definitely helps with that by offering the optionals. But what else is there to do? Are there certain stores that are a must to go to, certain foods that are a must to try?
Thanks!

Hi, as a "Kiwi" I can offer a few things to eat and drink. Try a hokey pokey ice cream, L&P soft drink. Pineapple Lump lollies. Peanut slab chocolate, any Cadbury chocolate. Cocolate fish. Fish and Chips. Meat Pie, might not look that nice but man the morning after a few cold ones it goes down so well.
You could also try whitebait fritters and bluff oysters if you are into sea food. If your a beer drinker, some of the beers to taste are: Lion Red, Speights, Tui, Export Gold, Waikato The only kiwi tore I can pretty much think of is The Warehouse, which is like a big chain store like Wal Mart etc - only budget!
Yah Speights!! You definately have to try whitebait patties and get your bluff oysters battered and fried from the fish and chip shop! The only thing is that both the whitebait and oysters have a very limited season and they are quite expensive.
You could also try Monteiths beer - if you are gonna be in Christchurch go the The Tap room which is on the corner of The Strip and Cashel Mall - that is a Monteiths Bar.
Also if you get a chance to visit some wineries in Waipara (about an hour North of Christchurch) Pegasus Bay and Canterbury House are a must!!
