I'm flying to New Zealand in November and have read about ankles and feet swelling because of the flight. Did anyone else have trouble with this? How can I prevent it? I don't want to have cankles my entire trip!

I've flown a few long flights around 14 hrs each way and what I try to do to avoid that is get up and walk down the aisle and stretch. Even when I didn't get up to walk I'd try to stretch in my seat. Fortunately no one was beside me on the first leg so I had room, otherwise I'd recommend going for a walk. It was also an overnight flight so I got to spend some time sleeping too. If you can, try to get the emergency exit rows. I got that row once and loved it! Plenty of room to stretch and other people would actually come there to stretch too. Have fun in November!

I travel quite a lot and my feet have never swollen but the longest flight I had down was the 14 hour to/from the US but I went to Europe earlier in the year and it was horrible I couldn't put my shoes on haha so yeah get up walk around get your circulation going I also found that elevating my feet helped when I had gotten off the plane cause it lasted a couple of days for me..

Not 100% sure (ie. do your own research), but I believe compression garments might help Smiler

There are also some special socks out there too. But if you walk around a bit and do some leg/ankle stetches from your seat you should be ok.

If you are going on Qantas to Auckland there is a pamphlet that has exercises you can do to minimize the effects of sitting for 13 hours. (I don't know if Air New Zealand has anything like that)

Walking around helped me so I would choose an aisle seat so you don't bug anyone when you have to get up.
