Hey there,

How you doin? my name is catherine from western australia. I am doing the LA to NY Grand southern tour in Feb/march 2006. I just wondered if you could tell me abit about the tour. Such as the optional activities, hotels and where the good nights out where?

 Thanx a bunch, cat :-)

I did the LA to Orlando leg in Jul/Aug 05 and loved it.  My fave cities were Las Vegas and New Orleans

I do not recommend the helicopter day trip to the Havisupi Indian Reservation in the Grand Canyon, though I had a good day, I do not consider it to be value for money.  There was no cultural experience (the native peoples barely spoke to us) which the way Contiki told us about it suggested there was.  I highly recommend the airboat tour on the bayou and dinner on the paddlesteamer in New Orleans as well as white water rafting on the Colorado.

Good nights out were Las Vegas (the Beach, Studio 54, Ra in the Luxor)Pensecola (the Seville Quarter - may have been influenced by the marines being intown), New Orleans (anywhere on wild, wild, wild Bourben Street) and Orlando (Pleasure Island).

Hi there! My names sarah and i have just returned from my grand southern contiki tour, which started on the 4th of october! I had a really good time and met lots of new friends!
I have to disagree about the Havisupi Indian Reservation optional at the Grand Canyon. TheGrand Canyon was amazing! This optional costs 345 dollars and then when you arrive you have to pay a 60 dollar land fee to the Indians.
What happens is that you take a helicopter flight down to the bottom of the canyon, the helicopter drops you off and you spend the day at the bottom hiking and swimming in the most amazing waterfalls! You can also do horse riding down there!
It is such a brilliant expierience and something that I am gonna remember forever! I definately recommend it.
You dont have time to take everything in when you are travelling with contiki, because you are always seeing new things. Its only when you get home and think about the things that you have seen that you realise you have just done the most amazing things!
We partied in Las vegas, Amarillo was a excellent night! Memphis was really really good! We had a halloween costume party in washington DC! You can go out and have a good night in nearly all of the places you visit! I did lots of drinking at night, and just slept on the coach!
Anyway you will have a great time! Make the most of it, You are only in these places once!
