Hello Everyone.
This tour does not appear to be very popular. My Eastern Discovery tour on September 29 (Which is the first half of a Great Southern) has been cancelled (by email) less than a week after the early booking discount closed. I paid in FULL a month ago. I have committments at either end of my tour I cannot "reschedule". Maybe I was the only one booked on the tour! I would suggest that you wait until close to the time of departure before booking and paying your hard earned money for a tour that may be cancelled at a whim. I have train tickets and plane tickets which are now worthless. Contiki wont reimburse you for costs incurred for booking on a tour THEY CANCELLED. Please check with contiki to confirm that your tour is not cancelled. Ciao Brendan |

Sorry to hear that. I'm not on this tour but can I ask if this was airfare they booked for you?
The reason I asked is that I booked my own airfare for another tour to save about $200, and my tour got cancelled. Now I'm scrambling with the airlines trying to move something without getting ripped off. I *was* thinking if I had booked air through Contiki, that I would've been safe. Maybe not? |

If you have travel insurance it would be worth while checking if you can claim any cancellation/amendment costs for your flights. I do know some insurance policies do cover this.

Thanks for your messages.
No I did not book my flights through Contiki. After what I am now going through I would ask them to put in writing what happens to your airfares if they cancel their own tour! It is definitely not a level playing field. If I had a reason to cancel my tour they sure as heck wouldn't hand ALL my money back. Yet they can cancel a tour simply because they aren't going to make enough PROFIT on that tour. Another point - try and ask one of the sales people to tell you how many other people have booked on a particular tour. Maybe they should - in the interest of FULL DISCLOSURE tell you before you pay your money what percentage of each particular tour are cancelled. I am seriously thinking about cancelling my Great Northern and Big Apple Explorer as well What makes my blood boil most though..... The salesperson who took my order told me to pay for my tour as soon as possible because it was filling up FAST! Yeah it occurred to me to claim on my travel insurance - but it only covers you if the tour operator goes broke. |

Hey Gasman
Sorry i dont hav any advice, just wana say that TOTALLY sux and if i read your post right, did you say you have also booked the Great Northern and the Big Apple?? Wow i think they should be a little more considerate since that they have your money from 2 other tours, which are not cheap! guess its all in that fine print at the end of the day, that no one ever reads! dammit.... I wonder if other dogs think poodles are members of a weird religious cult. Rita Rudner |
