Myself and about 10 friends are considering taking this tour in July of 2009. I was just wondering what people thought of the tour, if they were pleased with it or not, and any advice or suggestions you may have. This will be our first time out of the US with the exception of the Dominican Republic so we are sort of new at this! Thank you so much!

It was great. I went in October and had a blast. The hotels were fine (which was a big concern of mine). My tour manager and driver were fantastic.

Go for it! I also went in September/October and the weather was perfect.

You're going with quite a large group, but you'll wind up hanging out with everyone.


This experience/tour is a really great package. Plan to budget for the optionals, as they are quite fun and everyone else will be doing them too. However, do not sign up for the guided tour in Rome as it is very lame.

Hi there! Can you explain?! What were the pros/cons to the tour?

i did the discovery tour in january, and i agree about the guided tour in rome.
it took so long, and the rather old and slow moving woman just kept telling us the same thing over and over again at each ruin we stopped at (that we are standing on 2000 year old ruins and the writting was in gold).
half our tour walked off on our own about half way through.
so yeah, i would say dont bother with the guided rome tour.

You should definitely go on the European Discovery as it is an amazing vacation! It is incredible how much you see in what I consider to be a short period of time. Do not expect the BEST hotels in all countries. My experience in Lucerne, Switzerland was NOT the best. I also agree that you can do Rome on your on. My tour guide was fantastic and actually took it upon herself to give us our own walking tour around Rome. You should check with your tour guides about what they are going to do for you before you spend money on tours that you might actually get directly from you guides. Have a blast!!! Be prepared to make new, fantastic friends even if you are going with a bunch of friends!

Just wanted to add to this thread...we decided to do the Imperial Tour after all, and are glad we did.

The descriptions were detailed and informative, and not as boring as previous posters (not just this one) have claimed.

I don't think you can explore the Forum sucessfully on your own, as you'd just stare at a rock and wonder "what is it?"

I learned a lot and would recommend it in a second.
