Im looking at pre accom in LA before the contiki tour starts! Need help locating a nice area close to the likes of Hollywood, the walk of fame etc... we are planning on staying at The downtown Kyoto Grand the night before the tour starts but we want something else closer to the action for 2 nights... any suggestions?
Me and a friend are staying at hollywood Heights, north hollywood, we were told it is just aroung the corner from the walk of fame and universal studios.
Note it used to be a holiday inn, it's about 120 USD per night for a single or 230USD for twin share. It has a 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 rating on trip advisor.
I stayed at the Orbit Hostel on Melrose Avenue. They also offer private rooms with ensuite so, more like a hotel.
I found it about 20-30mins walk from the Farmers Market and the same again from Sunset Blvd.
The number 10 bus stops right out the front of the hostel and goes downtown so, that's a cheap way to get around. If you're doing any day tours (with someone like hollywoodtours.us) they pick up from the hostel so very easy too. The cost for me a few years back was around $85 for a private double room with ensuite (but you could sleep four in there as there was a double bed and bunk).
I'm staying at Hollywood Heights also. I would have a look at what you want to do in the area and pick a hotel on between the main parts. I really want to go to universal studios and its only a 15 min train ride away and the station is just down the road from the hotel. (it is also really close to the walk of fame - 3 blocks?) I was going to stay in beverly hills because the hotels were cheaper but its like an hour mission on a bus to downtown LA! no thank you! i think its worth the extra money to stay close to what you want to see but its up to you.
When are you all going on your trips and are you doing the grand southern!>? I leave on the 1st April and as i am a lone traveller wouldnt mind meeting a few people before!!
