Hi, I was just wondering if this now means we get 2 full days in San Diego??

Doing Western Highlights in July, planning on going to the Zoo on the second day, but now maybe can do Sea World as well on the first day?? Or do we do a tour of the city on the morning first, than have free time in the afternoon?? any advice would be appericated thanks heaps

missing out on tijuana is not missing out on much. seriously. i live 3 hours away from tijuana (in san diego) and i wouldn't go to TJ if someone paid me 50 bucks. it is ghetto and scary as hell! i just heard some sketchy stories about tourists getting captured in rosarito (which is a nice part of mexico), i don't even want to know how bad tijuana is now! (TJ is known to be a little bit more of a sketchy area, but attracts tourists cause it's cheap and closest to the border).

This will show my ignorance, but how far south does this type of activity usually go? I was looking at the new Mexico tours which are considerably further south than Tijuana, but I'm just wondering if anyone knew how often things like this happen in Mexico City and south of there. (I realize there is risk any place you travel)

I realise there is a far distance between Tijuana and Mex city but we are heading on the Grande Mex in July will this still happen? It doesn't go to Tijuana.

It's all about control of the drugs at the US/Mexican border towns so it should be fine on the Mexican tours.

I went to Tijuana with a group in mid-December 2008.

One of the guys we were with (an NZ guy) went missing from our group, and we returned to San Diego without him. It turned out he had wandered off from everyone and started talking to some random Mexican dude on the street. The Federale thought he was dealing drugs and arrested him, but not before taking all his money from his wallet. They took him to the cells and he had to spend an entire night with about 20 other Mexicans, and because there were so many in the cell he had to stand up all night and got no sleep.

As they thought he was dealing drugs (or more likely saw him as a cash happy tourist) they strip searched him the next day, and the only way he eventually got out of it was by saying he had a flight home the next day.

Our tour guide we were with had at this stage contacted the San Diego Police (who to be honest were pretty ungrateful and saw us as just obnoxious youth) and they managed to track him down in Tijuana. It's fair to say it ruined his trip.

also, literally a minute after we crossed the border into TJ, we were confronted by a sketchy mexican dude in a taxi who try to pimp out his younger brother and sister to us. when we declined he spat at us.

^ Woah, sounds pretty f*cked up! I'll be sure to steer clear of that place when I head to the US!
