My sister and I are planning to travel to the states next year, problem is she will only be 19. I however will be 24 when we go.
What I'm trying to find out is will it be okay for her to go into clubs (with or without drinking) with me present? I've tried looking it up and i can't figure out what the laws on family members are. Any help would be much appreciated Thanks |

Family member or not, the legal drinking age in America is *21*
*California Highlights - 9/24/08* Bridge to Reef - 11/3/09* |

Official answer is that she can't get in.
Unofficial answer for girls is that if you dress sexy, short skirt, cleavage, plenty of makeup, etc, then you have a more than 50% chance of getting in. This is because clubs want the guys inside to be buying drinks for the pretty young thangs. Women = Money. Underage guys are out of luck. However bartenders can still ID you at the bar even if the bouncer let you in. London, Paris & Amsterdam ~ May 18-27, 2007 |

From having it seen it happen, trust me when I say you don't want to be caught underage and drinking in a bar, especially if you're from OS. It's not pretty.

True enough, you do not want to be a foreigner in jail in another country! Makes it very difficult / expensive to get legal help. London, Paris & Amsterdam ~ May 18-27, 2007 |

I would say it would be just about impossible to get her in. We had some under agers the tours I did, in the smaller towns they could slide a bit but in clubs as soon as they saw a big group of people and heard accents they were asking for passports for id

Having been to the States 3 times now this depends on where you are heading.
On the West coast they seem to be pretty strict. In Vegas anything goes in the bars and casinos but we required ID for clubs. In New York they are a bit more lax. I got asked for ID for one bar only and even then I didn't need it the night before. I was told that the club that we went to needed ID and when we arrived we sent our under 21s home. They then didn't check our ID on the way in so they could've come in with us anyway. On the whole I've found that under 21s in the US tend to have to find something else to do with their nights when the rest go drinking amd clubbing which is a shame. |

Hey,
My brother and I were both under 21 when we did two contiki tours. We didnt get in anywhere. We were able to walk thru the casinos in vegas but we kept getting told to move on whenever we stopped to even look at a table. As someone said up higher, its really not worth gettin caught and ending up in jail as a foreigner! We ended up having an amazing time even without clubbing or drinking! |
