I'm flying out in a month's time from Perth too and got the cheapest deal with Qantas, flying into NYC and out of LA. I was really surprised too! I've flown domestically with them before without a problem hey.

Hey, im looking at doing the Grand Southern in May 2010 also flying from Perth and i am finding that Virgin Blue and Air NZ are the cheaper options, i am not a great fan of Qantas and porbably will take any other option over them. I have flown with Air NZ and they were amazing, contemplating flying with them in May.

Hi, I just got back from doing the GS, and I flew Qantas, and also from Perth.
Just a tip, if you can some how break up that return trip from NY I'd recommend that. I went NY to LA, LA to Syd, SYd to Perth in one hit and its a killer - and i'm a pretty short person! Even just a night in syd, cos by the time u hit sydney your soooo over planes!
I'm planning to go to NY next yr and trying to working out how to break up that trip

I am travelling Delta Airlines. They have only just started flying to/from Australia from 1st July 2009. I leave in 3 weeks and have a nonstop flight from Sydney to LA, LA to Salt lake city, and then on to Chicago. A lot of changing flights but was the cheapest option at the time of booking. United was the 2nd cheapest option also. Had a friend of my just come back from the US on United and said it was ok but not very comfortable and had to pay for food and no TV in front of your seat which Delta has.

I found Qantas to be the cheapest also - got BNE-LA return for $1100 inc taxes, on the Airbus A380! US Airways seemed to be the cheapest way to NY from LA when I was looking at that.

I did LA to the BAy sept last year and I flew Qantas Mel - LA, then NY - La - Mel on the way home. I found QANTAS really good, esp when our qantas flight from NY - LA was delayed due to weather, they held the LA - MEL flight for us as there was a lot of people moving over to that flight. Staff were friendly, good entertainment, meals etc. Personally I've always had good flights with QANTAS and never had any complaints. Hope this helps.

Go to a Travel Agent! Im one and trust me it's alot better for you to book through a trust worthy source rather than a shonky internet site. We don't charge a booking fee in our office and im pretty sure most agents don't so you're not really going to get it any better online.. Agents will also know what the absolute cheapest fare is at the push of a button! There are only 3 airlines that operate direct flights to LA Qantas, Delta and V Australia the others will go through their port country, Air New Zealand will stop in Auckland for example, so there isn't really many options.. I hope this info is helpful
