Just wanted some advice from some recent Contiki travelers about bags for the bus. The info we got says to only bring one bag(suitcase) of a certain size and then one overnight bag. It says in the info that they are very strict about the size and number of bags. Just wanted to know how true this was. We aren't trying to bring 10 bags or anything but wanted to bring an extra to bring home some items for family members.
Thanks in advance

Hi there

My sister and I went on the Simply Italy tour last year (it was AMAZING!), and as far as bags go, I don't recall them being TOO strict about it (within reason). Obviously, try to stick to the requirements, because this makes it easier for you as well as them (the bus driver is responsible for loading all the bags at each destination, and it's a lot of work, so just think of him!)... also, believe me, you don't want to be lugging around any more baggage than you need to - esp in the hotels where you have to take the stairs or squeeze into a tiny lift (or elevator - sorry, I'm from South Africa!).

I hope this helps. Oh, and also, we took extra bags that we could fold up and put inside our bigger bags (almost like fabric shopping bags) and at the end of the trip, anything that wouldn't fit in our luggage we put in there, just for the plane trip, etc.

Have a fabulous time - you're going to love it!

Hi Debby Q

This is my first Contiki tour … and I'm also a little concerned about luggage space!!! I bought a Rucksack (frameless, which is just inside the advised dimensional requirements). Rucksacks are easier to carry even when fully loaded. My daybag/daysack is a little 5kg bag (camel pack as they call it) which I intend to use on the bus to keep my electronic stuff (iPod, digital camera, work mobile phone etc) and a fleeced top … I know I definitely meet the Contiki luggage requirements, now its only a question if I meet the luggage requirements of my particular flight (Alitalia). Fingers crossed! Haha

I'm also a South African … lift/elevator all the same … :-)
