i have bought myself a backpack to travel with this time, i travelled with a suitcase last time and found it to be so difficult to carry up and down stairs and even over short distances while everyone with backpacks seemed to have it much easier. i'd suggest if you're travelling for a while (and are able to carry heavy weight) then go the backpack, if youre only travelling for a short while suitcases are fine.
Bre, if i could recommend anything it would be a back up with money. i tried to stick to a budget last time and blew it. id take a credit card or something extra just in case

Ok .. so I have cancelled my hotel in Rome and am free to whatever for accomodations. Ok ... for David lets give it another day or so to see if anyone else wants to go and we can book as a group (which I have no problem doing and we can sort out the cost when we are over there).

Hey guys... just thought that I'd let you know, that when you book your tickets, and they will give you a window (15 min i think) where you can enter, you only pay the booking fee (4 Euros) when you get there (not when you make the reservation). Also if you are lucky and go when it's quiet, then you don't need to pay the fee... just the entry charge and if you need to change the reservation thats free too...

I have booked us in to see David and gallery on Sept 4 (our full day in Florence) at 1:30 (recommended time was between 1 & 3:30 - so just in case we were late I did 1:30). I have reserved 4 spots (Shez, B, Tracy and myself) though if we have anyone else want to go it seems as though it will be easy to change and there was lots of spaces available. Tickets we 10 euros + the booking fee of 4 euros. I am getting excited as more things get planned and fall into place

Does anyone know waht exactly this Capri excursion is??? is it one of those opitonal extras or is it included in the price? Also how long is the visit to Pompeii? I'd love to spend some time there, but don't know if I'm going to have to do that on my own on a free day or something...

Anne, you so should have got your documents by now... if your travel agent done it right and told contiki that you leave earlier they should have sent them out a month before you leave home. if i can help out and tell you anything or fax/post any copies to you just say (i'll use work resources of course so i dont mind.. haha). as far as capri goes, the only thing we have on day 3 is the cruise but it is listed in the optional extras so i assume that if you choose not to do it you have to find something to do yourself for the whole day. it has the capri excursion listed for 20 euro, seems pretty much to be a whole day on a boat seeing things for the coastline but not stopping anywhere. it also has an extra excursion which it doesnt list the price for which is a boat trip into one of the many sea caves along the coastline... that sounds pretty cool but im wondering about the price considering they dont list it! and regarding pompeii, i think i commented earlier to someone that our visit is REALLY brief. ive visited there with contiki before and they do a quick tour of less than an hour and it really only steps foot into pompeii... there is so much to see and i just remember the guide walking straight past so many things i had read about that were worth viewing and i was the one lagging behind the group trying to take in all i could :-P im in rome for 2 days after the tour (including the day of our departure breakfast) and i think a few of us are and had already decided we wanted to make a day trip back to pompeii to take it in fully... so i still plan on that happening so you should join us!!

My travel agent seems to be messing around a bit too....they haven't even processed my payment, so I've not received any of the travel documents.
