Hi guys,

I am going on the Ultimate European tour in August, before i go i would like to have an idea of what sort of souvenirs i can get as a typical "cultural thing" from every country i visit, e.g Eiffel tower in France, Collesseum in Italy, etc. I was wondering if there could be more information regarding some of the countries on the contikipedia website, i tried searching for Barcelona but i couldnt find much other then Italy, and France, Amsterdam etc.

Also i was wondering if There could be a list of "cultural alcoholic beverages" found in every country.. i was looking at trying something again cultural to every country.

The search function on the site is a lot better than it used to be, we're working on it to make it turn up more useful results though.

I'm not certain that I understand exactly what you're looking for...we have individual pages for manners and customs in Austria, France, Germnay, Greece and Italy while there is often this type of information on the pages for other countries..... there is this page on Barcelona and there are about half a dozen links off that page to more info about Barca... a little bit of info on Spain - we haven't gathered a great deal of info on Spain (yet) as the who Contikipedia is a work in progress...

This is a page of links to specific pages about food and drink from a few specific countries and cities....

To answer your question specifically...(your Tour Manager will be able to help you out a lot with this type of info once you're on tour too)...

By souvenirs (some of these will be a lot tackier than cultural) do you mean like mini-sculpture type trinkets (ie Colosseum, Eiffel Tower)? If so almost every place you go will have 'tacky' tourist stores where you can pick up souvenirs and reminders of the places you visit - you really won't have to hunt very hard for this type of thing (in some places like the Eiffel Tower, people will literally be trying to shove the stuff into your hands).

As far as 'Cultural' alcoholic beverages go (there is a whole host of non-alcoholic beverages as well) -
England; Beer and gin,
France; Beaujolais wine from the Chateau (yum) as well as soooo many other types of wine, Pastis 51 liquor and Kronenburg beer
Spain; Sangria
Italy; Chianti, Brunello, Asti Spumante, Processco and every other type of Italian wine, grappa, lemocello from the south, Bellini in Venice, peroni and nastro beer
Greece; ouzo, alpha and mythos beer, cumquat liquor form Corfu, retsina fortified wine
Egypt; Stella beer
Turkey; raki and efes beer
Bulgaria; rakia and white wines
Serbia; slivovitz (plum brandy)
Hungary; white wines and Unicum
Austria; schnaps, gosser, zipfer and steigel beer
Germany; Beer! williams pear schnaps, jagermeister
Switzerland; eichoff feldscholossen beer, geneva and zurich wines, absinthe
Netherlands; Heineken and Amstel beer, jenvers

I was just referring to those "tacky" souvenirs that everyone refers to them as from every country so i have some sort of rememberance, as my mum has already told me i have to get her one from EVERY country i visit which i thought might be a bit helpful to get some information before i leave..i.e in Spain the "bull fighter etc"

But i guess ill just wait until i go on tour for the souvenirs i guess haha ..

With regards to the alcohol, is there a page which lists all the main alcoholic beverages that are served in each country i.e champagne in france, ouzo in greece, etc? I'm going to try and sample something in every country..
