We're both girls. I wish we could stay longer but we both have to get back to work. I'm glad you guys are around the same age; I was a little nervous about the whole age thing when booking. Have you done a Contiki tour before? I can't wait to go, I really need a vacation!

Hey Haley,
I been talking to a lot of people and they have been telling me about Contiki and people going solo. I head all good things so thats reassuring.
When ar eyou departing from Athens?
I am staying the xtra nite in Athens as i just booked this trip and getting a return flight on a Sunday is way more expensive.. So by departing on a Monday is a lot cheaper and crash in a hostel somewhere. It also gives an extra day to tour the site see etc. as we're only in athens for a couple days.

hey Mark,

You are lucky to be getting in early enough to site see. I am coming from Toronto and will arrive just in time for the first get together Saturday night.
There are a lot of tings closed on the Sunday from what i am reading. I was thinking doing the Vatican first thing like 6 or 7a.m Monday as apparently line-ups are horrible anytime after 8a.m.
and museums are closed on every Monday.

our hotel is within 5km of everything big, anything on the itenery is that close.
I called contiki and the Rome part is do your own thing as anything mentioned other then the dinner is not included.
But apparently its better to wait and meet our tour guide and he can give us a better idea and prices...
My big things are the Vatican, Sistine Chapels, The Bascilia St.Peters the church, this is the most amazing church on our planet.
of course the spanish steps, and the Trevi fountain is a must see.

OK i am reading right now all vatican museums are closed on Sundays and there is a rigid dress code, pants for men and woman a little FYI..

Anyways if you have any ideas it would be nice to hear them.

You're right, we are going to have to juggle between places that are closed Sunday, Monday, and appears Wednesday Rome is practically shutting down for their holiday:
Definately closed Sunday- Vatican, Sistine chapel
Definately closed Monday- most of museums
Some websites were contradictory when something was open though.

We are thinking about purchasing a guided tour thru the Vatican website for Monday at 2pm...they say you don't have to wait as long. Monday AM were going to do the forum via the excursion and colosseum (were you going to purchase online tix or use roma pass for this??). That would leave museums for sunday that will be closed monday.
Too bad the tour manager can't help prep all this in advance rather than the start of the tour. Lots to acutally plan....
