I believe this is the trip that I am on - except my itinerary says Aug 13th is when my trip begins (my travel) than the tour will actually start Aug 15th.  Do I have the correct message board here?

Hi everyone, I'm Damian from Canada and I will also be travelling on the August 13th (tour arrival)/August 15 (bonjour Paris) trip.  I can't wait to meet you guys on this tour and, "onabreak", you'll be happy to know that you're not the only solo as I'll be travelling solo as well.

Look forward to meeting you all.

Glad to hear I am not the only solo!  I am flying into London the day before the tour starts (the 14th), my flight arrives 6:00 am.  Has anyone done a contiki tour before?  If so any advice?  I do have one bit of advice for Venice bring bug spray.  I was there last August and got eaten alive by the mosquitos - no lie I had about 15 bites on my face alone - not fun!  Well I am getting more excited as the days go on, a little over two weeks!

Hey Scott, I live in Toronto which is about a 6 hour flight from Vancouver.  I can pretty much get to London in the same amount of time that it would take me to get to Vancouver.

As for "onabreak", I have done a contiki tour before and, if I think that the best piece of advice I can offer is to take the tour for what it is.  Given the budget nature of the tour, I wouldn't go into the tour expecting to stay at the Ritz but, because of the type of tour you're on, you're guaranteed to have fun with a very spirited group of individuals.  I did a Contiki of NZ before and, those who started out introverted on the trip, ended up being some of the most social people by the end of the tour.  It was great to watch.  Contiki does have a reputation of being the "drinking tour" or the "fun tour" so, if you're the partying type...start the liver training now.  If you prefer quieter surroundings and are worried whether or not you will get that, don't worry as there is bound to be other people on the bus with similar interests.  The most important advice I can offer is to just be accepting.  Try and brush off the tiny quirks that people are bound to have and live it up for what it is.  Contiki always ends up creating an atmosphere that fosters amazing friendships, a kind of "family in a bus" atmosphere and, on one occasion (not mine), the beginning of a romance that lasts through to the altar (I know that was cheesy but, as I said...be accepting of people's quirks Wink )

With respect to Italy, right now it's 40 degrees celsius down there with the humidex and, from what I understand, not all of the places we stay at are air conditioned so bring light clothing, some bug spray, and unless you're either going out for a fancy dinner or you're in enough love to take some bites for the team, avoid strong perfumes/colognes that attract the bugs at night.

That's pretty much all I can think of.  If you want to talk further, my MSN is cioccaro@hotmail.com though I will be arriving in England on August 10 to visit some friends that I met on the last Contiki tour.  What's everyone's plans after the trip?  Anyone sticking around for a little while?
