Hey....

I was just wondering how you handled your money on tour?... Did you take travellers cheques, cash, or use your credit card?... What would you recomend?

cheers

Hi all

Sorry its been awhile.

1) clothes= pack light you will want to buy SO much while your there and you dont wear everything you bring. ALSO many hotels you stay in DO NOT have elevators so you will eed to lug your bags up some seriouse flights of stairs!

2)the trip is JAMMED PACKED leave your hair straigtner at home.....you wont have time to use it! also high heels look great but most roads are cobblestone! (your choice)

3) NO VISA is needed just make sure you have your passport on you at all times (dont leave it in your suitcase at the hotel.

4)Money = i used my normal bank card for cash withdrawls and my credit card for all major purchases. these should do you for everything. and machines are everywhere. Your bankcard will work in all machines overseas as long as you have the MISTRO symbol on your bankcard.

5) take your camera EVERWHERE! even to nightclubs you get your best pics there!

Hey Smelly

Sorry i lost my list of hotels, but they are all pretty good. Especially the one at Mt Pilatus (ASWOME) and the hotel at St Goar is above the local pub YAY!!!!

I didnt see an iron all trip but unless you got up early, you didnt really have time to iron (or want to for that matter)

in the whole 3 weeks we only had 2 YES 2 wash places, they were in Canne and in Tyrol (hopfgarten)

Most of the washing we did in the hotel sinks....so bring a travel cloths line if you can or bring enough undies to last you! hahaha

thanks for letting me know bout all of that but now i got a couple more questions :P

1. how much money approximately did you spend on the optionals?

2. what optionals are worth and not worth doing?

3. is there any specific things that you thought were brilliant and would recommend doing?

4. did you do the white water rafting and was it worth it?

ummmm thats all for now lol. but im sure ill think of some more Big Grin

Hey smelly!
go to your nearest Strandbags/Shaver Shop or travel shop and get one of the Korjo laundry kits - they have everything you need washing wise.
Enjoy your trip,
just over a week til i go!

1) i did ALL the optionals and o recommend you do to, even the MOZARt concert was amazing, you get to eat the local food, mix with the local people and if you dont do the optionals you only have to find something to do for yourself, which probably wont be as good!
2) like i said try all of them, MOZART is not great if your not into classical but your in the very room he was! OH and there is a church in slovenia which overlook the town - either catch the cable car or wait in the bar for everyone else to come down
3) my hot list.....
- climbing the eiffel tower
walking around paris not on the tube - you can get everywhere on foot and it is so much better!
- the bike ride in Hopfgarten 20ks sounds bad but its a great time
- going to see David - its not an optaional, we missed the leather making tour to see it but was worth it
- going out to the nightclubs no matter how hard you think it will be to get back to your hotel! have fun
- SWISCO - in the alps (you will know what i mean!
- i didnt white water coz it was still frozen but i would definently do it
- anne franks house
- sex show amsterdam - im not into it but it was GREAT for a laugh!!!!

do everyhting, be everywhere, !!!!!

Hey
I'm NOT going on your trip but i've travelled with Contiki and would like to offer some advice:
If you plan on taking a credit card to Europe, you may want to call your credit card company to let them know you'll be travelling so they don't think the card has been stolen and cut you off.

Another thing I recommend is carrying your cash in a money belt, I find it safer.

Plan on spending $100-$150 USD per day. You'll have to buy lunches daily, souveneirs, some dinners and going out at night. You should try exchanging money before you leave. You'll have to chance to do so on the tour, but easier to get that part out of the way and have one less thing to worry about.

When you pack, throw some clothing into your carry-on to lighten the weight of the suitcase and in case your luggage gets lost. Leave room for souveneirs & carry with you an extra copy of your pasport and hotel address list.

In terms of weight of luggage, it's the airlines that are more strict than Contiki. Each airline has their own weight threshold & will only be too glad to charge you extra for going over. You can find out the limit/rules by going on the airline's website.

Feel free to ask me anything else.

Just to add to the Credit Card advice, be prepared for your credit card to not work in some countries. Austria and Germany was my hassle spot but Italy is supposed to be a problem sometimes too. I was the only one on my tour with the drama though so it might not be a big deal but just a warning!

Great advice Brian (aka Loogie) thanks heaps. i'm wondering about getting washing done - is it possible to have this done by someone through the hotel or do I need to wash everything by hand in the basin?? Not that I have a problem doing my washing by hand, I'm just concerned about getting it dry before we have to move to the next place... Any advice you can offer would be great. Danielle
