I will be doing the Beaches and Reefs tour starting July 24th and was wondering what weather is like at that time as i am aware that this is winter in Australia. I am planning on doing a lot of the more adventurous options such as scuba diving, surfing, sky diving, hot air balloon. I was also thinking of doing the 2 day Whitsunday sail. Will i be able to do these things in the winter weather or would it be too cold? Does it rain alot?

Hi, As you probably realise Australia is a large country and therefore the weather is different all over. July is winter, but up north it is also the dry season, so there should be less rain than in summer. But on the southern parts of your tour is may be cold. I'm not sure exactly where your tour goes, but in Brisbane (southern Queensland) July is the coldest month of the year with an average high of 20 C. However up near cairns (northern QLD) the avergae temp for july is 25C. I suggest you make sure u pack more than one set of clothes for cool weather.

It'll get cold at night too, especially in in the Southern States.. I live in Southern QLD and its freezing in winter but we're up on a mountain so it's always a few degrees cooler.. winter is usually a good time to visit cairns cause its not really humid and you won't get to much rain but the water might be a bit cold.

i went july/aug. up in cairns it was around 28 during the day. at night it would get chilly, bring a sweater for sure. stayed nice all the way down the coast. by gold coast it was more like 24, and sydney was around 20 during the day. winter is dry season, and not stinger season so its a great time to go! especially as its the summer up north so its not a popular tourist spot during this time.

my advice: don't walk back to the hotel at 4am in Sydney when its a 45 min walk without a jacket or sweater!

alyssa!

I from Cairns you might want to reword your post.

From June till August is the dry season in North Queensland (and also the hieght of the tourist season), however for the Southern end of Australia it's their wet season. And just a note I't the Southern Hemisphere's WINTER. Including the northern end of Australia. In summer temperatures can reach 31c(88F) degrees plus on a cool day.

I meant that its summer in the Northern Hemisphere (where I am from) and many choose not to go away when it is our nice weather, hence there won't be as many North American Tourists
