Hi Shaun, from Brisbane Queensland Australia .... how about you? This will be my first big overseas trip so am really excited .... will be doing the UK and southern Island tour first
Im from Melbourne. Will also be my first overseas trip. Planning on traveling afterwards for about 2 1/2 months as well. The one problem im trying to solve at the moment is how to take and spend money...you had any advice..?
Bet you will be glad to escape winter in Melbourne which I've heard can be quite um, freezing ... I'm pretty jealous, wish I could have free time to travel around afterwards .... I guess the idea of this tour for me is to just get a general idea of which countries I liked the most and then go back at some point and explore those countries in more detail ... I thought the safe option would be a tour in my case as I'm travelling solo and don't speak any other languages (although lately I've been learning some Italian!) Yeah, the money thing is an issue for me as well. I do have a Visa debit card and I've also been looking at the Travelex cash passport cards which look OK security wise but cost wise seems pretty steep. Also, will definitely have some cash exchanged before I go over to cover the first few days (in London for a few days before everything kicks off). Just bought my sleeping bag yesterday, so am starting to get things organised. I've got to stop going on about this trip to everyone I meet though, cause either I'm making them jealous or I'm boring the *** out of them! I'm just so excited though. It's really great to meet someone else who will be on my tour already as well ... anyway cheers for now
Yeah it will be good to escape the winter, although i will miss half the footy season, hopefully they will show it over there.
Yeah my travel agent told me about the travelex card, and i have heard from other people that it costs a fair bit. Im looking at using a credit card and just cashing it up, and withdrawing money as i go. The wizard clear advantage credit card is apparently the one to use as there are no overseas currency charges, no atm fees, no withdrawal fee and no 2.5% currency conversion fee. I got that off a website and havent confirmed this with the bank yet, it sounds a bit to good.
What day do you arrive in London before the trip starts..?
Hey Estelle, good to see someone else on board. It does look fairly aussie dominated so far, but hey there are only 3 of us on this forum so far, so who knows who else has booked.
Hey Shaun, I'm sure there'll be some other footy fans on the tour as well and hopefully you'll be able to catch at least some of the games
I think if you were going to pay for your trip with a credit card, wizard seems the way to go .. their conditions and charges look pretty good.
I arrive in London on the 26th June and leave for the Great Britain/Southern Island tour on the 28th June. I have the 27th free, so booked a ticket on the London Eye and entry to Madame Tassauds museum, know it's a bit touristy but at least it will keep me busy for the day
