i emailed someone at the tourist office in Prague about what would be open on New Years Day and this is what she said:

January 1st is public holiday which means that shops will close sooner and
some of them will be closed, but in the centre there will still be many
open, including department stores and shopping malls. The public transport
will have longer intervals. The restaurants in the centre will remain open
as well as the tourist sites, that might only open later than usually. Most
monuments, museums and galleries will be open including Prague Castle which
is open daily (except 24 December).

That doesn't sound too bad. And New Year's Eve sounds so exciting, it would be so much fun.

I'm definitely going.

I think I am definitely in as well. Contacted a travel agent this weekend about it. Now just trying to decide where to go after 'cause I'll have 4 or 5 extra days before I have to return to the US.

Has anyone else already booked? Just noticed it's not yet guaranteed...wondering how many we'll need to have it be a guaranteed departure.

Hi,

I'm looking at going on this tour also. Still haven't made up my mind yet though.

I'm 25/f/australian (currently living in London)

I'm thinking about maybe spending an extra day in Budapest after and maybe going to Warsaw for a couple of days before heading back to London.

looking at the itinerary, it assume you leave your country on Day 1, which is Dec 26, and arrive in Berlin on Day 2, which would be Dec 27.

http://contiki.com.au/tours/99-berlin-prague-vienna/departures

it says 27th here? im confused as they dont generally refer to the tour as the day before you actually meet/begin the tour? maybe its a different tour all together?!

ok, I see the confusion - on the US version of the Contiki site they list it as "starting" Dec 26, but that is just the day we depart the US.

the Aussie version of the site that you linked to has it starting on Dec 27, the day you arrive in Berlin - which is "Day 2" in the US version.

it's really all the same, so no worries...

I finally booked as well! I will probably stay in Budapest through Jan 10 as it seems like there is a lot to see in the city and elsewhere in Hungary!

Anyone who wants to chat beforehand or try to coordinate post-trips plans, feel free to email me at katrinka76@gmail.com.

Hi Naomi, 25 from the UK and I'm thinking of booking this trip as far as Vienna - does anyone know how many people are booked onto it so far? Are there many people travelling solo? Going alone doesn't bother me as long as I'm not the only one! Flight from the UK already look pricey, especially coming back from Vienna Frowner
