hey, i'm heading on that trip as well.. not sure what u mean about the website saying that it starts on june 25 though.. u had me worried for a sec but i just had a look and its def 27th june departure.
The North American version of the website has it listed as fly to Europe June 25 (Day 1), attend pre-trip meeting on June 26 (Day 2), depart London on June 27 (Day 3).
gotcha.. that makes sense now. where are u from? are u going on your own or with a few mates? i'm from south australia and going solo. not long now, should be good fun.
I'm from the U.S. and going solo as well. First trip (and hopefully not the last) to Europe. I'm really looking forward to it. Just over a month to go...
I fly in on the 25th and will be staying at the imperial on both the 25th and 26th.
Have you guys received your travel documents yet? I just got mine yesterday.
Looks like most of the hotels we'll be staying in are not too close to the city centers so we'll have to take public transportation to get to all the action. Some of the hotels look nice on their websites, and others not so much. And some of the reviews that I read weren't too nice either. But I won't be wasting my time in the hotels and I'll be going with an open mind anyway...
If you search for the amsterdam hotel on googlemaps and click on streetview you'll even see a contiki tour bus parked across the street...I couldn't stop laughing when I saw that!
I'm picking up all my travel docs on Saturday. The accommodation situation doesn't sound too promising?!? Hopefully it doesn't end up being too much of an issue.. Have you guys had much of a think about what optionals you might do?
Regarding the hotels, people's reviews/opinions are subjective so as long as we go in with a positive attitude and open mind there's nothing to worry about. Besides, it's all part of the travel experience!
Regarding the optionals, I myself am definitely interested in doing...
Both the historical walking tour and the spy tour in Berlin
The half-day bike tour in Munich
The Forum and Colosseum tour in Rome
The Mt. Pilatus tour in Switzerland
If I do any of the evening optionals it will probably be the canal cruise in Amsterdam and maybe one of the dinner optionals in Italy.
And if there's nothing else to do when we stop in Austria, then I might do the white water rafting.
I think with the accommodation we have to go not expecting much because I've been to Italy before and unless you're paying top dollar it's not the nicest.
I wanna do pretty much all the extras...just hope I am in a good condition to do them if we've had a big night before haha.
are you guys planning to do any travel after the contiki?
Yeah I've got another week between when contiki finishes and when i head back home but i'm not sure what i'm gonna be doing yet.. I hope to go to the cricket at Lords but I'm having trouble getting tickets. If I can't get tickets to that I reckon I'll just play it by ear depending on how the funds are looking by that stage.
