Hi everyone,
I am going on the Euro Inspiration on 23 Feb 09. I just got the list of places we will be staying at and looked them up. Below are the links to the accomodation we will be staying at. It may come in handy for people if you are interested in what they look like, services, location in relation to attractions etc. Obviously not every tour stays at the same places but it serves as a rough reference. Amsterdam http://blue-square-amsterdam.hotel-rez.com/ Berlin http://www.agon-aldea.de/ Prague http://city.hotelibis.cz/hotely/ibis/30-2-1-sluzby Munich http://www.leonardo-hotels.com/Hotel_Residence_Munich Venice http://www.airmotel.it/inglese/index_ita.htm Rome http://www.romapark.it/index_en.html Florence http://www.hotelautopark.com/uk/chisiamo.htm Lucerne http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g188064-d228240...l_Hotel-Lucerne.html Paris http://australia.hotels.com/hotel-france/hotel-paris-ar...-sud-porte-d-italie/ Hopefully someone may find this helpful. I thought I had better come back on here and let everyone know what the places were like that we stayed in. It has been about 6 months since I went on my first contiki tour. It was a great experience (apart from being sick for the entire trip). I was pleasantly surprised with the standard of accomodation on this trip. Before going I had read a lot of reviews from previous contiki travellers in regards to the standard of accomodation and was a little worried about what the places we were going to stay at were like. Well 90% of the places were great. Just for reference I stayed in a double room with my partner.
Amsterdam: It doesn't look very special from the outside but our room was great. I have never slept on a more comfortable bed in my life. The room was immaculate and felt like it was 5 star. Berlin: Well the standard of this hotel was good. It was nice and clean and looked well maintained. Just be prepared for a rather small room especially in the bathroom. There isn't that much room to move however overall I couldn't complain. I have to say their dinning room was massive and the food was delicous!! Good little bar down the straight for beer. Prague: As most Ibis chain around the world, this one is no different. It was very clean and classy. Our room was rather spacious and the bathroom was roomy. It in walking distance to shopping centre, public transport and a cool bar, oh and a pharmacy. Munich: From memory it was a nice place to stay. Clean and well maintained. A little on the small side but comfortable. Bathroom was nice and it has a little kitchenette but my advice is not too touch it as they charge. At least read the instructions before you touch it so that you know what you are in for. Venice: Well what can I say about this. The reception area is nice. The dinning room/bar is kind of small. Our however, well it was very big and spacious however our bathroom was disgusting. There was mould all over the roof and I didn't want to have a shower as I wasn't impressed. Also make sure you get in to have a shower before everyone else does in the motel as the hot water runs out very quickly. I wasn't impressed with this place however I really can't complain as it was a place to sleep and that is really all you need. Rome: Nice little place to stay. The rooms were rather spacious and the bathroom was ok. Our toilet was broken however and I almost fell off......a funny experience to remember. If you get the rooms on the ground floor near reception, like we did, be prepared to hear all the noise. It is a bit of a hike to public transport and on the way back from spending the day in town, we got a little lost trying to get back to our hotel but that is half the fun. Florence: Well this is probably the second place like Venice that I wasn't very impressed with. Granted it was clean and tidy however there wasn't hardly anyroom to swing a cat around in, especially the bathroom. The shower you were lucky if you were able to fit in and shut the door (extremely small). But once again I can't complain for the money that you spend on contiki it is a place to rest your head. Lucerne: We didn't actually stay in the place that was outlined in our trip. We stayed somewhere else in which i can't remember the name of. It was neat and tidy. By the way a handy tip. If you are there in winter like we were, you don't need a fridge, just put your beer etc on the window sill and shut the shutters....automatic and environmental fridge!!! Paris: Yes this was funky accomdation. Our room was white and bright green. Very roomy and we had a massive bathroom as we landed the disabled room. Great place to stay and public transport isn't that far away to catch. If I had of done this soon after the trip I would have remembered more about each place. I have to say overall all the accomdation was great for the money you pay for the contiki trip. I was pleasantly surprised with the standard. Just be prepared as european standards are different to Australian hotels/motels. Also just remember that it is really just a place to lay your head at night even if it is just for a couple of hours. Happy travels!! Cheers Leandre |
