I havn't been on my "european experience" tour yet, until next week, but I'm getting slighty anxious after reading a large amount of VERY BAD reviews on SEVEN HILLS camping site in Rome....
about people attacking the tents at night and robbing them and being abused..secuirty not caring...being in the middle of nowhere, the toilets being disgusting and a very big walk away in the pitch black... im actually quiet scared of the tour now, i hope contiki don't put us in danger??Or is it all overexaggerated?

Any thoughts on the matter??

Hi Cass,

The Rome campsite was probably one of the more poorer accom venues that Contiki had through my tour, the toilets were fine from memory and the showers were ok, but yes were a fair hike from your tent/rooms.

I stayed in the cabins there, i guess they were no worse than anywhere else. There wasnt any problems with people being attacked though, however we did have gypsies come in and rob a few of the cabins in Venice (Fusina Campsite)...

I wouldnt worry to much, you should be more worried that the bars at the campsites only sell like 5 different drinks! and at Seven Hills, you cant use cash you need to buy into there card system

hey if you are doing the european experience you shouldnt be staying in tents. you should be in cabin type things sharing with 2 people with their own bathrooms. rome wasnt the best campsite but it could have been worse Smiler

I just came back from European Whirl and Seven Hills has just opened brand new wooden cabins. The bathroom was reasonable size and there are 2 beds on either side with a door to each room. We didn't have any issues there, apart from the external lights not working when we got there at like 8pm at night but there were heaps of people from the group around, so it doesn't really matter. The card system is a bit of a pain, just get a card to share between a few people when you check in

Yeah, I did my tour a couple months ago and the Seven Hills campside isn't too bad. It's basic, but not as bad as you describe - and it's been updated because there's bathrooms in the cabins.

The worst accommodation by a long shot was the one in Paris. It was the first night and left a very bad first impression! The beds were disgusting and while there was a bathroom in the cabin, it was awful. The shower was just a showerhead on the wall with no screen or curtain so the water went everywhere. There was no shelves to put your stuff on and everything got wet and gross fast because of the shower. Thankfully, that was probably the worst of the lot! I was hoping it couldn't get worse than that.
