Hi Matty,

I'm going solo for my first contiki tour in June 07 too. Which date are you going ? I'm going on the 10th June for the 33 days European Explorer.
This is going to be a blast experience of my life ! Can't wait ...

Cheers,
Imel

Hey,

I am going solo for my first contiki tour in June 07. I know everybody says you will be fine but still I am excited and scared at the same time. It is the unknown that is scary and untill you have actually done it your self you won't be able to see that.

Cheers

Hey Hey,

I'm traveling to Europe for my 3rd time in June; however this will be my first time doing a tour and the first time traveling all by myself. I was leaning towards the European Whirl tour for 20 days. I'm excited and can't wait go back but I'm also a bit nervous going alone cause I can be the quiet and shy type unless I drink; then I don't shut up (hahaha). I rather go alone then not go at all though.

That's the great thing about Contiki---I've done it solo once and with my best friend another time. Both tours were great! You really get meet a great group of people when you travel with them so you never feel alone, even if you are solo. And when you bring your best friend along you both can't stop gushing about how much fun you're having. Either way, you won't be disappointed.

hi there...new to Contiki style of travelling but reading many of the replies on the various forums, sounds like a good way to see the world. What is the average age for most of the tours? Is it mostly those in their 20's or are there some 30ish people as well?

I have never been out of Australia and am a little concerned because i am quite shy and don't really want to travel alone however I am also sick of organsing friends to come which never eventuates. I am 27. Does anyone my age have the same concerns and have any tips?

Hi Austin
i have the same problem as you. not sure if I really want to travel by myself as I had a bad experience last time I went overseas by myself - although it wasn't on a contiki tour, it was for work - and I am SO sick of organising friends to come with me, and then always pulling out!!! So i've decided to bite the bullet and just go. I have booked in to the grand southern tour departing LA on the 30th June. Most people I have talked to that are going on this tour are going alone, so that's a good thing i spose. Good luck with your trip, you will have an awesome time1

I didn't travel by myself till I was much older. Although, it wasn't actually by myself because I joined an Interpid tour group. I of course made friends quickly and the group was awesome.

The difference is, either completely solo or joining a tour group, you'll still have a sense of independence and you're obligated to no one (on a social level, that is). But going with a group of your own friends, there's potential for drama and if things don't work out, you're screwed because you're stuck with them for the duration. Not trying to be negative, this is just from my own experience.

On the other hand, there are times that you wish you had some good friends to share the experience with. If you do go with your own friends, make sure they are like minded, share the same adventure, enthusiasm, and interests. Last thing you need is to be taking pictures and having your friends rush you because they want to hurry up and get to the next bar.

I'm a first time solo traveler as well. Heading over to Europe in Aug. I had the choice of waiting a year to go with friends or going now solo. I clearly am not patient enough to wait. I'm rather excited. The way I see it I'll have my independence but all so someone to call on if I need help or just want to share an experience.
