There is definitely no reason to worry about traveling solo. So many people do! I just got back from a trip to Europe and I traveled with one of my friends but by the end of the trip I hardly saw her because we had each made so many new friends!

With a friend.. We both want to travel to Europe and see the same places etc.. But solo I dont see anything wrong with it, adds a bit of unknown to a trip but thats a good thing too. I guess it depends on your friends..

You MUST travel solo!!! It is sooo much fun and such a great experience. I just returned from the European Highlights in Aug and I went alone. You meet the BEST people in the world! And on my trip almost everyone came alone. It makes for such a better experience because you have no choice but to get out there and meet new people. You are all in the same situation and everyone is looking for the same thing (to have a great time, see lots of sights and go out) and most people come alone so they are looking to meet people as well. while i do have lots of advice to give about contiki (best trip of my life), going solo is a really good thing to consider. its empowering, you have more confidence and its a different experience than going with a friend.

Me and my boyfriend of 2 yrs decided Contiki would be the cheapest and most fun way to see Europe together and make some new friends. He's never been overseas and I'm desperate to do something new so we're both counting down to our European Whirl next July. I'm not too worried about the lack of 'couple downtime', it's only 4 weeks and we'll still be together 24/7. happy times Big Grin

Me and my boyfriend travelled this year and did the USA/Europe thing, but honestly I have always wanted to do Contiki... He is now my husband, and we would love to do USA/Europe again... Is it weird if we do contiki as husband and wife we are both still young and love to party, both 24???

I just got back from my first contiki trip. It was an amazing experience. I went with two other friends, but you do get to meet a wide variety of people, from the all out party goers to the more quiet reserved travellers. I'm sure it is perfectly normal to travel as a couple. We had a number of couples, both bf/gf and married couples.

This past July, I did the European Encounter. Prior to leaving, many people would ask the same question, "Are you going with friends?" I'd answer, that I was going by myself. Grant it, I had met several people on the Contiki Message Board that were attending the same tour but nothing compares to actually meeting and spending days and nights with, really...strangers. I was really lucky, everyone was phenomenal and we were quickly dubbed the Paparazzi. Cameras were forever glued to our hands and our index finger to the trigger. Grant it, if you ask anyone that was on tour with me, I seemed to be the shutter-bug of the group with over 3000 pictures in just two weeks. I tried to keep a journal of everything but there is just so much going on, so much to see, I dropped the pen and kept my eyes glued to everything. My only notes jotted down are the many drunken e-mails I quickly sent to friends and family late at night...which really captivated all the excitement, many bottles of wine (lost count) and how I was REALLY feeling during the trip. Someone should really label wine as truth serum. Everyone is different, it's inevitable. Open your mind, have no care in the world, smile and you're going to have the time of your life! Now that all is said and done, I look back and realize, time has flown and the trip seemed so short but yet, mind boggling on how much we saw, how much we did and how much we really valued each others time and company. Now, when people ask the question, "Who did you go with?" I can honestly say, without any hesitation "I went with 50 of my closest friends." The shock on their faces is priceless. The best is when one asked how we managed to organize such a large group and all decide on vacation details without too much disagreement...Simple...Contiki!

There is no need to fret or have this debate of 'Traveling Solo or with others?'...You're traveling with others. You might as well erase the optional answer of solo off your mind. You'll never be solo on a Contiki tour. Everyday I think about everyone on my tour. I miss every single one of them. I wish I could hug them everyday. They are the best bunch of travel companions I could have ever asked for...no offense to my parents but this group was top notch.

I've never been on a contiki before, however I'm think of going alone. I'm a little worried about it, especially since I've never travelled outside Europe before, and I don't know about any visas etc. which are required for the US.

Karl.

Booked on the "LA to the Bay" - 25th June 2008. CAN'T WAIT!! Smiler
