I booked the contrast Reef and Rock tour for Sept 4th '08. I am travelling alone and I am just looking for anyone else that is going on this tour and for any general advice anyone can give me for the tour or what it is like in Australia in early Sept. Thanks
Hi, are you still on this trip? It's the only post I see for the Sept departure for Reef and Rock, but I presume theres more going! Im from New Zealand, and looking forward to my trip. Australia should be getting warm (spring time), and up north should be tropical and glorious (hopefully). So, anyone else going, feel free to introduce yourselves!
Hi! I am still going on the trip. I didn't even see your post until now. I would have to think alot are going but I don't think alot of people read these posts. I'm from the US (Boston,MA). It's going to be a long flight for me but I still can't wait! It's getting alittle crazy now because I just found out I have to renew my passport before I go. It expires less than 6 months from when I get back and I didn't know that was a problem... opps. So I will introduce myself since so far we are the only ones here! I'm Megin.
Well im Leanne, from New Zealand. It's so cold here now so I can't wait for September when I get to go somewhere warm! Just a couple of hours for me to fly to Sydney when the time comes. I've just been browsing the site once a week or so seeing whats going on, I guess a lot of people don't think to have a look for the forums. I hope you get sorted for your trip, are you just going to Aussie?
It's summer here so it has been pretty hot lately. I will be going from summer into warm weather still. So it will extend my warm weather time a little bit! How cold does it get there? I am just going to Aussie.. I would have loved to go to New Zealand or any other stop on the way because it takes so long for me to get there but I didn't have enough time to take from work. I had to save all my time to go on this trip. I will have some time left over but not much. I just started my job about 1 yr ago so I didn't have much time saved. Are you just doing this tour or are you able to do another one also?
Sydney will probably be average Spring temp, but the Whitsundays will be tropical. I would expect shorts and t-shirt - or less. Im just going to aussie, I have a night either side of the tour in Sydney and then Alice Springs. I am travelling by myself for the first time ever, so will be very interesting as I am not a good flyer, and I have 5 flights all up! I am psyching myself up so I will be brave about it LOL. Can I ask where you are staying (if you are) in Sydney on the 6th Sept? Im staying at the Travelodge, where the tour meet the next morning.
I am staying at the travel lodge too on the 6th. I should be getting there about 9 or so in the morning I think. I am scheduled to be in a quad so I guess I will see how that goes! On the last day of the tour I will be leaving Alice Springs and staying an extra night in Sydney again at the travel lodge. It's the only way I will get back! I'm travelling for the first time by myself too so I am excited and kinda scared because it's such a long way for me (20 hrs). I know what you mean about trying to be brave about it! lol.
I presume that most people stay at the Travelodge. Ive been booked in a quad share there. Im a relativly light sleeper but I think overall my body will crave sleep so much a little noise (or snoring) on the trip is not going to matter! lol
I think that most people do too. I'm sure that I am going to want to sleep when I get there. I don't sleep very well on planes... but I am going to try not to because then I will be all off on my timing. I am going to be so tired though! I guess that I will get through it somehow. I haven't traveled that far so I don't know how I will do with the Jetlag. The farthest I've been has been Ireland which is a 5hr difference for me. This will be a 14hr difference for me!
I know! It is getting so close! I still don't believe it. It is going ok I think. I have a few things together (all little travel size stuff) but that's about it. I have all my documents now. Just have to work on clothes. That's the hard part. I always over pack! Plus going so far away I don't really know what to bring. How's your prep going? Question: do you know if we can check in early to the travel lodge? I am getting in around 630am on the 4th.
Im the same, just gathering all the extra handy bits i will need. Got my documents too. Im dreading packing my clothes cos I know they wont fit! I plan to do a bit of shopping too so i will need to leave some room. I used to work in a hotel, so I know that early checkins are only possible if the room is vacant and cleaned, but Im sure there will be somewhere to put your luggage in the mean time. Maybe you want to email the hotel and ask or at least let them know, or get your travel agent to check. I get there on the 6th at about midday
I don't know how all my clothes are going to fit either. My extra stuff is taking up alot of room. I got those compression bags for my clothes and stuff so I am hoping that it will help make some room. I posted the question about the early check in for the hotel..so maybe someone knows. I tried to email the hotel too but I haven't heard anything yet. I will figure it out I guess! I don't know where I will be midday either passed out sleeping or running around the city!!
