Hey,

I've been pretty inactive on the net recently but I saw your message on
DeviantArt too.  Glad to have a fellow DA traveller and also a
photographer Smiler  In answer to your question whether I'll be taking
my camera, of course!

That reminds me I need to pay the balance too!

You'll love Europe I'm sure.  I live in the UK so its not far for me to travel at all.

Hey, only just seen your post here.  I know Stevenage.  I used to visit my sister who lived in Ware which is near to Stevenage.  I'm coming from further afield in Telford (no-ones heard of it).  I sent you a reply on the other thread Smiler

Hello Sam,

Not long to go now, hope you are excited like me?
Have you started working out what you are going to take? I have done a trial pack and worked well, was under weight even with my travel iron, so still have room for a bit of shopping.

Have you herd from anyone else who is going the same tour as us? I haven?t yet except you.

Maybe we can swap numbers so when we get to the hotel we can meet up?

Rob

Hey Rob,

I've only heard from the other guy on this thread Mark although not messaged him in a while.

I haven't gotten around to trial packing yet, but I do know my case
isn't that big so it won't be over the weight limit.  At least I
know who to go to if I need to iron.  If you need a hair dryer I'm
your gal Wink  only joking!

I wrote what I though was a checklist of a few essentials but it turned
out to be around 30 items like antihistamines (sp?), paracetol, travel
pillow, blanket, sleeping bag, torch (for camping), sewing kit, first
aid kit, bottle opener, sun cream, journal, pens etc etc etc.  I
just seem to keep buying clothes at the moment.  I'm packing only
for summer weather so if we get a downpour or **** weather the whole
time I'll be stumped.  I will probably have one rainy day outfit I
guess.

Definitely swap numbers etc.  I'll email it to you later as I
can't rememebrr now and I need to head out to my match in a minute.

Catch you later!

Just noticed the other threads on diff dates seem to have 60
replies!  I'm a little concerned that people aren't going on our
dates, or the people that are don't know about this message
board.  Thats what I'm hoping.  Our dates only changed to
guaranteed depature a few weeks ago.  I did ring up when it wasn't
guaranteed like the other but they said not to worry.

Hey Sam, Rob. Not to worry! I'm still coming so we're bound to at LEAST have 3 people.  But as you said Sam, I think mose people just aren't checking these forums.  I'm actually leaving in just a week to travel a bit in Italy before hand and I dont even have a list of things  haven't done a trial pack! I'm starting to think I will probably be underprepared.  What is the weight of our pack supposed to be? I'm traveling London and Boston after the tour so will probably need to bring a large pack.  Sam, what camera gear are you bringing?

Hey Mark,

If you are over the limit I'm sure they'll keep some of your luggage back at the contiki basement while you are on your euro tour for you to pick up when you come back.  I'm sure that won't be a problem as a lot of people do come for travelling before and after the tour too.

As for camera equipment I'm only taking the bare minimum as I plan to carry it with me everywhere as its not injured abroad.  I'll be taking a nikon d70s 18-70mm lens, possibly my tele/macro and a light tripod and a couple of filters.  WHat are you planning to take?  Unfortunately I knackered my ankle up last night and am now in heavy strapping and using crutches so not sure if I'll manage bringing any camera stuff if I'm still on crutches for the trip.  Who knows how I'll carry my luggage/  Fingers crossed I'll be ok as it isn't for another 2 weeks.

On a lighter note enjoy your travelling before hand.  If you want to catch up on the 21st the day before we leave I'll be down around midday.  Just drop your mobile number in an email so we can get in touch.

Take care and seen you soon!!!

Sam

Hey Sam,
Yeah I think I may need to leave some luggage behind. I
am also using a backpack, which I think may be larger than their
recommended size. I hope they don't make me leave that behind too!

I'm just taking my Canon30d and two lenses plus a polarising filter.  Maybe a mini tripod if it fits and isn't too heavy.

I'm not sure if I will have an active mobile when I get there, but you can email me yours or msn me on marque00@hotmail.com.

I read your journal on DA, hope your ankle gets better soon!

Hi Mark,

I think the MAX weight is 20kg I have herd they are very strict on the weight going over because of the ferry crossing to France, and they do weight your bags before we leave, and if you are over they will make you take stuff out until you reach 20KG.

So you and Sam are keen Photographers then? I will be taking loads of pics, but will only be taking my digital camera (Sony cyber shot DSC w15) hopefully 2 GB memory stick should be enough.

So when do you arrive in the UK? I only live 30 miles from London so will be getting to the hotel between 14:00 - 16:00 Friday 21st. What hotel are you staying at? me and Sam are at the Imperial Hotel. We can meet at the hotel bar if you like? Have a few beers before the welcome meeting.

Rob
