Is it recommended to stay overnight in London before and after the trip?
I live in Aberdeen and was planning on flying down the day before the trip but unsure what to do when we get back as I could fly or megabus.com back up to Aberdeen the same night later on.

Opinions please?

I would say stay a few nights extra, at least. That way you'd get to check out London as well, and add it to the experience.
