Are any of you guys going to stay at the Royal National Hotel (where the tour starts) before or after the trip?
I'm looking forward to escaping the end of NZ winter Smiler

We're planning on staying there the night before the trip starts. After the trip (we're coming back to London for a few days) we're planning on staying in a bed & breakfast.
Will this be anyone else's first trip to Europe?

Is there any cities/ sites that you are looking forward to in particular? Or any optionals that you are for sure doing/ not doing?
I am really looking forward to the Anne Frank House- I read the diary & I think it will be so fascinating to actually BE there.
Optionals that I am for sure doing are the gondola ride in Venice, the Bavarian Beerhall & the Canal Cruise in Amsterdam. I've read mixed reviews about the dinner optionals, so I'm unsure about those.
Does anyone know when we are supposed to make up our minds about what optionals we are going to do? I read one travelblog that said near the beginning of the trip the TM will collect all the money for the optionals. I really hope this is not the case as I'd like to make up my mind as we go along- depending on the weather, what my tourmates are doing, and if I feel like it that particular day.

I actually just looked at the calandar for what dates are available & the August 20 departure is still available according to Contiki's website. But I've noticed the availability seems to change from day to day- not sure how that works.
