As far as i know - most european countires will let you in without a visa for a maximum of 3 months, if you were to get caught any longer than that, then look out. It is only for some of the eastern european countries such as ukraine and romania that you may need a visa to get in. I am doing the 46 day camping tour on the 23rd of july, and i dont need to get any visas. Should you travel on after your tour it may be a good idea to apply.

hate to break it to you, but you do need visas for the 46 day camping tour.

Turkey “Australian tourists visiting Turkey on an ordinary (blue) Australian passport may obtain a tourist visa upon arrival for approximately USD20.00.” - http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/Advice/Turkey

Macedonia- Not entirely sure if you have to get this prior to depature, or at the border...

Albania - “All the foreigners* from the following countries enter the Republic of Albania without a visa, with the passport and by paying 10 Euros.
http://www.mfa.gov.al/english/viza1.asp

Hungary- A little bit confused as to whether or not we actually need a visa for Hungary, but there you go...

to the i hate to break it to you person, but yes you do need VISA's to alot of countries but read what you wrote, ON arrival, im going on a 45 daya too, 21 countries, you do NOT need any VISA's prior to going, you just pay for them when your there. you can be there for 30 days, then leave and come back for another 30 if you like. its no biggy.

Yes Vanessa is right, I have booked and payed for 46 day camping Aug 6 and spoke to my travel agent who assured me that you don't need to arrange ANY visa's before you go. A lot of countries will issue you with a form to fill out when you arrive - that is your visa. I am stopping off in Dubai on the way and they issue you with a visa on arrival into the country. You just have to fill out some forms and stuff it is easy!!

I'm pretty sure the original question was to ascertain whether or not visas are required - at any point. Fair enough, it might not be necessary to apply prior to departure, but at the very least awareness is apt.

Ok, i went to check and double check what visa'a are required for Australian's.

You Dont need to obtain any visa's prior to departure, All Visa's can be obtained on arrival for all destinations.

So make sure you carry some US dollars and EU dollars as Prices vary from 5-60 US dollars for most eastern countries

Thanks for all your helpSmiler

Hey Markus

Ive been doing some research into the visa situatio. You might want to check this site out: http://www.smartraveller.gov.au/zw-cgi/view/TravelBulletins/Europe_Schengen

There is something called the Schengen Convention which states that if you are staying a short period of time you dont need visas in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden and Spain. As of 2004 a lot of the eastern european countries also have the same requirements for short-term visas including:Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

Hey Catherine, Im pretty sure Australian passports and visa's are the same as NZ. Im also pretty sure from what i understood from my agent and people on this site that we can enter any country anytime as long as we pay the Visa at the border and dont over stay our welcome.

don't know if this changes things for people or not.. but here you go -

"Holders of Australian passports require a visa to enter the Republic of Macedonia.

Previously, visas were issued at Macedonian border crossings or on arrival at a Macedonian airport, however this is no longer the case. Macedonian diplomatic and consular missions including the Embassy of the Republic of Macedonia in Canberra, Australia now issue Macedonian visas.

To apply for a Macedonian visa you will require:

a valid passport
visa application form personally signed by the applicant (available from the Embassy or from tourist agencies)
AUD $24 (one entry visa) or AUD $48 (three entries/exits visa)

A visa can be obtained in person at the Embassy, through a tourist agency or via post.

All those electing to apply for a visa via post should send a money-order for the visa tariff, and all applications must include a pre-paid postal envelope (registered mail highly recommended) for the return of their passports. Please note that the Embassy does not take responsibility for lost passports/documentation. "
