hey dave, am from nz (was living in welly up until 6months ago) and going through all the same stuff at the mo, wat a drama!! i see you said you have got your NI number, just wondering how you went about that. my impression was that we cannot apply until we are in the UK?? any advise would be appricated. Hey Mandy, gd to c another NZer on the trip I got my UK bank acc, and NI number thu FastrackUK.com They have a NZ ph number u can call them on which is 0800 665838. It cost $100 bucks but they sort it out all b4 u leave NZ which is great!

Hey Jess, yea its gd to c a few of us on here, not as many as on some of the other forums. NI stands for National Insurance number and you need it if you want to work in the UK(otherwise you have to use a emergency insurance number which is taxed at a higher rate until u get a NI). Im planning to work for atleast a year after Contiki so I needed to get an NI number for that. Oh thats cool that you guys are planning to stay afterwards cause I have no idea what im going to do! Eg. find a job, find a flat and so on!!!

Hi guys, Just been reading your comments on the NI business. I have been in the UK for 8 months now and never got a NI number. It is however a good idea to organise it before you leave home because the UK government don't make it easy to obtain one once you get here (you have to go to an interview etc) If you don't have one though it won't affect your tax as that is separate but it may make it harder to try and claim any NI back that you pay as that's what i am trying to do now. If anyone has any other questions about living or working in the UK i'd be happy to help cuz i have been here a while now Im also going to be in London from the 13th of June so if anyone wants to catch up just give me a shout!! Thanks Amy, I gess im lucky that I have applied for mine. Yea it is getting pretty close, only 12 days for me, then off to Sydney for a few days to catch up with family, then up to the gold coast to stay with a mate, then singapore stopova, then London, Cnt wait!!!!
