Hello everyone! I'm Simon and I finally booked this tour over the weekend. Had trouble getting the time off work but we just lost a couple of big jobs that were due to start in October - bad for the company but good for me!

I'm 25 (26 by the time the tour starts), from Brisbane and travelling solo on my first visit to Europe. Looking forward to meeting all of you!

I forgot to mention that I am also doing the cruise - I wiki'd the islands that we visit and they all look pretty interesting. Plus you can't go past another stamp in the ol' passport, courtesy of the Turkish authorities Wink

Gday to all the familiar names in here, and welcome to the new ones - Simon and Jen!

By my count it is officially less than ten weeks until the tour now, when I just realised that it hit me like a ton of bricks. LESS than ten weeks! Whoa!

Starting to become more real now... there's so much to do and less and less time to do it

Is everyone spending the night before at the Royal National? And to all of us solo people, are you doing the triple share thing? It made the tour cheaper so i was sold Smiler

I get into London on August 12 and then i'll be there for another week after the tour too. My sister lives there so she's going to take me to do all the touristy stuff.

I was having a look at some of the other forums and ppl were talking about booking tours on the free days (like the Vatican) before the contiki starts. Are any of you doing that? I was thinking i'll just leave it til I'm there but now i'm not sure!

I haven't booked in anywhere in London yet - because I don't really know 100% what I'll be doing. I might need to book one night at the Royal National at least I guess.

As for other tours and those sort of things - I figured with such a regemented time line already, I'd leave everything else to chance and do whatever sounds best on any given day.

Have you given any thought to the optionals yet?

That's a good plan, I want to have an idea of what I want to do in each city but I'd rather not book ahead in case everyone else decides to do something different.

I'm budgeting for all the optionals, the only one so far that I dont really care if I dont do is the folklore show in the swiss alps, with the yodelling and cow bells. There has to be something funner to do than that! And I wish our tour had the white water rafting option coz that sounds like so much fun!

Yeah I think my budget will stretch to do all of the optionals, though I don't think I will.

As with the other stuff, I'm trying really hard to stay away from making preconceived decisions - but my gut feel is that any optionals that are basically just a dinner, I might skip in search of some authentic local cuisine... and the others I'll probably give a go.

So hard to know when I've really got no idea what to expect!
