Hey everyone...just wondering if any of you are registered for this trip? I would love to learn who some of you are before the trip starts! I will be going with a friend of mine on this trip.

I don't know anyone who has been on this tour but my sis did the Europe and Greece for 35 days by herself. She loved every minute of it! Come along, the more the merrier!

Also, I have read that Contiki no longer offers the hot air ballon ride over Luxor. Someone said that if there is enough interest they can set it up. Something to think about. I know we're in!

I don't know of anyone who has been on this tour before...but I am sure that it will be fantastic!

I heard the same thing that the hot air balloon ride is canceled...I will check with my friend to see if we are in.

Looking forward to meeting you all on the trip.
When do you all get into Cairo?

We get in at 4:10 on Saturday...hopefully by the time we get to the hotel we will have a little energy yet to meet you all by the pool!!!

Is it just me or does anyone else get fired up about saying "see you in Cairo"! Smiler

We get in at 12:20 Saturday afternoon. It's going to be a LONG flight, but the adrenaline will keep us going. We're going to need a pool with the temps over there. I read that Luxor can reach 104F in July! Crazy!

We definately look forward to meeting you guys as well.

Awesome, thanks!

So - It's REALLY hot right? Did you carry water with you on the tours?

Did you have time to shop in the bazaar?

Thanks!

yes its very very hot especially down in aswan and the valley of the kings. it was def manageable though becaus its dry heat not humid heat. make sure to take a hoodie or a jacket with you because it does get cold at night.

sometimes sharif the guide will give out bottles of water on the bus depending on where you are and what you are doing. i would recommend buying it from street stands and stocking up if you can because it is very cheap there but very expensive at hte hotels. just make sure to check the seal when you buy from the stand because it is common for them to refill old bottls and sell them that way. you will pay something like 2.50 for water at a hotel but only like .25 or so from a stand.

i would also recommend buying food/snacks/breakfast to take with you on the train because the food is scary... and breakfast is basically 5 types of bread. hardly any of us at the dinner as we were advised not to eat "the beef" if thats what it was.

you will have a few hours at the khan on the last day of the trip. its plenty of time to do your shopping. just be aware of what time it is because all shops close for prayer time (whic is cool to see, but annoying if you are trying to buy someting). buy your stuff here but make sure to practice on your haggle... its totally expected and some of them will try to rip you off if they think you will pay.

also, you get to go to the night market in aswan to buy a costume for the party. that was one of the most fun times i had... just make sure you find a husband and stick with him because some of the men wont talk to a woman... or your husband will get you a better deal at least!

overall, be prepared for a different, but totally great experience.

feel free ot ask if there are any other questions!

amy
