anyone else going on this tour?
this will be my second contiki adventure and i will be doing so by myself. pretty excited!

This will be my first Contiki tour and I am SO excited about it! My friend from Scotland will be meeting up with me there in Cairo for the tour. I think I read of a couple other people in the earlier posts who are on the same tour as well. It can't come soon enough for us

cool! i've paid for the airline ticket and should be paying for the trip by the end of the week. i can't wait! i've been dying to get over there for awhile now. where are you coming from?

Is anyone staying back in Egypt after the tour (doing an extended tour)?

I'm coming from Canada (Toronto area). I won't be staying after the tour. In fact, my flight leaves the next day at 3 am! Yuck! That means there won't be a wink of sleep for me on the last night Is anyone else looking at what immunizations we should have for there?

oh toronto, cool! my best friend lives there, so i try to get out there once a year. went last november and thought it was pretty cool. i'm trying for october this year.

and i don't think we need any immunizations. i looked on some tourism site about egypt and it said shots were only required if you had been in a place where there had been a 'problem'. so. i guess if you've been to a place infested with malaria, get your malaria shot? who knows.

my flight leaves before i even have breakfast on the first day! 6am i believe. yuck

My flight was also scheduled to leave at 7 am on the last day of the tour. I am thinking of staying one extra night to just to get that extra rest and to see Cairo (just in case if we don’t get to cover all in 2-3 days)

As for the immunisation:
I have been advised to get boosters for pretty much everything. Hope to get a full list soon

Hi guys,

That's a good idea to stay an extra night. I wish I was getting there a bit early to have more time to get adjusted and to just chill out. My flight gets in at 12:30 pm on Sept 15, so at least I'll have the rest of that day. How did you guys get so lucky to have 7am flights? My travel agent said that most flights left at ridiculous hours, hence my 3am flight.
Where are you coming from TJ? Let us know whenever you get that full list of shots.

I’m actually coming from Melbourne so I have a long flight … I am trying to make London as my base so I will be flying to London and then to Cairo on BA. I will be in Cairo on 14 th Night and hoping to leave on 24 th in the morning.

Question: Have you guys got your Visa yet?
Another FYI: I was told by my travel agent that it is best to get the visa up-front before you get there, even though you can get visa on arrival …

Hi TJ,

Yes, I heard the same thing from my travel agent about getting the visa first. You might as well, just to avoid any last minute issues or line-ups. My travel agent mailed me the form for the visa, but I can hardly read it so I'll have to go over it with her in a couple days. It looks pretty simple, though it asks for our address in Egypt. I'll just leave it up to the professionals to fill out. It costs $26 canadian for me.
Melbourne? That is going to be a long flight! How many hours? Is this your first Contiki tour? I was thinking about taking one in OZ next year if this one goes well.

Visa –
I was informed about the “last min Issues” and the line-ups too (and few others)…. In my case I filled the application to get the visa, which was much faster than going through the travel agent. It only took me 3 days to get 6 month multiple entry but sounds like we are getting the short-end of the stick as it cost me 50 AUD .

Agree on the assumptions on the flight from Melbourne --> Mel to Sin 8 hr and then Sin to Ldn is almost 14 hrs and then to Cairo from London is about 3.5 hrs (8+14+3 = 25hrs ) but I’m sure it will be worthwhile !!!!

Nest stop for me is South America early to mid next year, but if you get a chance you should defiantly do down under inc. NZ, can guarantee you will have fun… I have covered all of Queensland, NSW, Victoria and some of South Australia, but hoping to cove NT and WA within next 2 years

South America? That's awesome! How are you planning on doing that? A tour of some sort? Or are you going to just make your own way around? I've never been anywhere down there, but I plan on going someday. Hopefully I don't have to win the lottery first to be able to afford it!

The south American will also be a tour but don’t want to mention names of other tour operators on this forum but it seems there are couple of specialised teams cover the ‘Inca Trail’ …. Agree $$$$, as this is the biggest issue …. Hopefully will be able to make it soon as I am already planning for this, lets wait and see….

hi guys,
i went in yesterday to get my visa all figured out. sometimes i don't think i need a travel agent, but i was glad to have her for this! glad it's all straightened out and i guess it was shipped out today. so hopefully i'll get the visa within two weeks.

i kind of wish i was staying the extra night, actually. it would have been fun to roam cairo on my own, but oh well. and i actually get in on the 15th around 6pm!! i believe we're supposed to meet wherever to show the contiki tour manager our passports and such at 7pm, but apparently i have enough time between 6-7pm to get there. yikes! i just hope i'm not cutting it too close.

i don't think it had hit me earlier that i was in fact going to egypt, but randomly, today, it did and i got EXTREMELY excited. hooray!

I know, now that's a month away it's starting to set in a bit. I have yet to send away for the visa, but I'll be doing that on Thursday.
Melissa, where are you flying in from? My friend is also arriving at 6pm from London. Apparently, the hotel is over an hour drive from the airport, but you won't be the only one coming in at that time at least.
I see we're going to have to be very carefull with our packing. No tank tops, shorts or skirts! I'm going to have to buy a new wardrobe just for the trip!
